New tires? (azenis, Eagle F1, Toyo)
I was just about completely burned through a set of Escta 712's when a screw ended their life slightly prematurely. This is the first time I've ever lost a set of tires to road hazard. /shrug
So I'm looking at new tires. My two favorite tires of all time are the S-02 Pole Position and the Toyo T1-S. And I preferred the SP8000's to the 712's.
Some of the tires on my potential list are:
Goodyear Eagle F1 in 205/50/16 ~420 plus shipping after rebate
Falken Azenis Sport in 205/50/16 ~78/tire
Toyo T1-S in whatevers available (have to price still)
Does anyone have any longterm experience with the first two? I live in california and can say I've only had the Impreza in snow three times in 4 years and 98k miles. Rain, however, is a concern. And frankly, tirewear is suddenly vaguely important as I'm unemployed and don't know when that'll end. Road Noise is not important at all. Traction and feedback are paramount.
I'm also open to suggestion. NeoGens? But I'm serious in needing a long term review - not just a "I just put these on, their great" as I liked my 712's for the first 2k miles and hated them their remaining 8k.

First off, I LOVE MY AZENIS! But to be honest, tread life is an issue. They had 4 auto-x days on them when I bought them (track duty only). Then I put them on my car (02 WRX Wagon) and ran them day-to-day. Since then I've run 6 auto-x days, one track day, and many many evenings of drag racing. I'm pretty sure after the next track day I'm going to need to replace them.
Conclusion. If you have the luxury of a 2nd set of wheels for the track, or don't race much, then get the Azenis (ESPECIALLY FOR RACE DAY!!!!). However, if you are like me, be prepared to change every 6-8 months.
I LOVE MY AZENIS!
edit: Oh yeah, I've put roughly 7,000 miles on these.

Okay, look at the reviews provided by tirerack.com:
The BFG F1s are the best tire around, no questions asked. Grip better, last longer, quieter, ride better, and right now, they're cheap as *****. They're backordered, but at those prices I'm gonna buy a couple sets. IIRC it's $124 for 215.45.17 which is awesome for the best tires made. Other than that, the Yokohama ES100s are great tires for the price as are the Kumho 712s.

Azenis Sports are the SHIZNIT!!! they are some of the stickiest dry tires i have ever ridden on... They arent bad in the rain either... actually (IMHO) they are fun in the rain if you know what you are doing... you can put the car in some nice beautiful controllable drifts with them.... but dont try to drift them on dry tarmac... doesnt work so well...

i am sponsored by toyo and use the T1-s for daily drving and used them once for a race. They squeel alot in Auto-X, but produced a decent time, quite on the road, and good life. They are made to put 225's on a stock wheel, not a whole lot companies can do that and are great in the rain

I ran Azenis 215-45-16's on a 2.5RS for 13k miles and 14 track days (fairly hard...I'm an instructor) and then sold the car and the tires had 2/32" on 2 3/32" on the other 2....I'd say they would have been good for 3 more track days.
They are fine in dry, rain and unusable in snow.
If you really want to save money....get some used RE92's from someone upgrading and when you're employeed again, upgrade yourself. 4 RE's with almost no miles tend to go for about $150 for 4. IMHO, you can't beat that!

What about the Kumho MX's? I've had them for three months now and have done some brisk driving with them (no auto-X but have run them hard enough to get the sandpaper texture on them).
In terms of dry asphalt grip they are close to the Azeni's and BFG KD's and in the wet they will eat them up. They probably aren't as good as the S-03's in the wet but I'm sure they are just as sticky as them in the dry, if not more, and cost a heck of a lot less.
They only bad thing about them is they are noisy. If you liked the 712's, you'll like the MX's more.

My Azeni's outperform my S-03's
I have 5K on both my S-03's and my Falken Azenisz: the Azenis have better dry AND wet traction but they will hydroplane more readily in standing H2O. Azenis are MUCH more noisy, but the price and performance have contributed to making them the tire of choice in auto-x, street tire cat.

They don't seem too bad to me. They are worse than the RE-92's (they don't seem affected at all, probably because of the soft sidewalls) but much better than tires like the Comp TA R1's and Yoko A032R's.
They tend to be a bit noisy but stick really good. It is a night and day comparison with the RE-92's in terms of traction.
In terms of wet traction, they seem to work fine in the wet but I live in CA so it doesn't really get wet here. We had some pretty good rains here in the spring and the car seemed to handle fine. I'm sure the traction for the SO-3's and the Michelin Pilot Sports will handle better in the wet but they also cost a lot more.
