Hi
I found this site through Evolutionm.net. I just purchased a high milage 2001 Subaru Outback H6. within days of purchasing the car I began hering a noise, and I was hoping to find some advise here. I am going to fix it what ever the cost. I also drive a 2006 evo mr, and a 2007 Trailblazer SS. I bought this car, so that my wife had something to drive when I use the trailblazer, and to save gas. My wife cannot drive stick.
I had my mechanic check the car when I bought it, and he said it was fine 2 days later he thinks the timing chains are rattling. My dad thinks it is a bad bearing. HE just had to replace the short block in his 2006 sti, and he said the noise sounds the same.
If anyone herre knows where I can get a rebuilt 2001 EZ30D motor that would be great. I found one for 2002-2004 for $1699. How much different is the 2002 model from the 2001?
Any way I know this is a lot of info, but I often read the new member threads on evom, and I am hoping someone with knowledge reads this. Neither problem seam to be known issues for this car. It sounds like a marble rattling in a tin can when the engine reves between 2750 to 3500 RPM, and you can keep the noise going if you slowly drop the revs to about 2000 RPM once it is rattling. It does not seam to be as bad before the car warms up, although I have heard it at idle on the first start up of the day. My thought was that it could be the oil pressure tensioner gone bad.
