so after an amazing day at t-hill with EQ, the last session left me with a bad feeling, literally and figuratively... :/ i got off the track, headded over to the pump to get a few gallons of gas as i noticed some weird noise and clicking only in third. so i spun back around to the tent and got some advise from a real stand up guy and he said he thinks it is a chipped tooth. i can feel it in the shifter, and every time i go into third it does it. the time shortens between clicks with speed, i tried it getting on the freeway and it does it just as bad still. has anyone had this before? and what was your fix? i really dont have the money for a new transmission, and down time on my suby will leave me with riding a honda ruckus with my girlfriend on the back :P

i have searched and searched multiple forum and nobody seems to have the same issue, maybe im wrong, who knows.

Well, put my car up and a scissor lift and went through the gears. First through third are toast. Thinking of just doing a six speed swap just so I don't have to be nervous every track day. I'll keep u guys posted though.

If it is a chipped tooth there is nothing you can do except replace the gears or transmission.

If I were to keep the original transmission, what are my options to rebuilding it? Are there stronger parts I can drop into my 07 tranny to make it stronger that stock?

looks like im in the market for type ra gear set and an rs diff and some sort of new front diff, or sti drivetrain, havent decided which will be less painful....

does that mean you figured out what happened or are you just going off assumption?

going off assumption, i have some time to diagnose while i save up for the mod, and if it isnt it, then ill have some cash to play with :D

thanks for thread-jacking norcalsub.

i cant find any prices on andrewtechautomotive.com, have you done business with them? what setup/how do you drive and how do you like the gear set? do you need to send them a core?

I really dont know that much about it. I have heard a lot of things about them on nasioc and everything has been great. The consensus on nasioc is that there pretty much bulletproof. I believe you need to send a core.

well my tranny was just pulled apart and the 3rd gear has a tooth missing, so they have to replace all of third. said and done, with a family hook up, my total is 391.86. not to bad seeing as they arn't charging me labor. I really wish i had the dough to throw down for a RA gearset :( . Your going to keep driving yours apex?

As of now, yes. :/ I do not have the extra money lying around for that kind of repair, even for parts because I am planning on taking the labor into my own hands to save on costs, hopefully with the help of friends :D good find on the repair, sounds to me like a legitimate fix. If it is possible for you to hook it up with the same repair I would be down for the 400 bucks opposed to 850+ to a new tranny!

Repair it before it blows up completely...this will prevent further and more expensive repairs.

RA sets are good, MFactory is better.

I would say that for 85-90% of most people out there the RA gear set works just fine. If you do track or drag race your car a lot then looking into the PPG gear set might be worth it. If you only go to one or two track days a year for fun then save some money and get the RA gear set.

+1 to what Paul said get it fixed sooner then later to prevent more damage.

i would love to fix it sooner, and i would love an RA gearset but the money is my issue, so i need to save, but in the meantime, i ned a car to drive, and that just happens to be the suby. the Honda Ruckus only gets me so far city wise, but it does get me a sweet 110 mpg :)

so i ended up buying a 6spd swap, and then brought it in to subaru just to see what would happen, and theyre covering the issue, i saw the gear and 2 teeth were chipped right off.....

I have been driving the car for 7 months this way btw... no tranny fluid change.... crazy.
