Dudes, there were over 22,000 members on the old board. let's be ultra-Pat Robertson conservative and say 20% will hop over here too. That's 4,000 plus.

yeah, but we're talking 24 hours here... I think people will hesitate. Specially since we're only supporting the bay area regional right now.

I think a lot of people are just going to stay at NASIOC. Theyre used to those surroundings.

Want to hear some truth about "NASIOC's" members numbers?

Ok, here is it goes.

Nick likes to throw around numbers in the 30,000's. The front forum page says ~ 23,000. Out of them, only ~ 10,000 - 17,000 if even that high are actually active users. The rest are double names and people that never come back. The search cannot be done without a name. Ask why? Why? Because random people register stupid names for one time search and never come back and if they do, they register again. That’s how you get 23,000.

When I "HAD" access to the members list, I would clean it up every now and then and update the member count. Basically, no post for over 3 months? Out goes the username. But then Nick stopped doing that. Either it would just choke the server he's got or limit his "marketing" apeal to vendors or simply forgot about it. Who knows.

what you just posted isn't exactly a revalation.
it's more on the grounds of common knowledge.

I never said that's a discovery, hehe.

Its just funny, when people try to use the total registered members numbers to their advantage. Thats misleading.

Just like the Digital Cable Internet commercials:

"100 times faster than dial-up"

and then with some super small fine print where no one can see it:

"Connection speed may vary"

I am sure some people signed up for cable internet, because they really though it was x100 faster or whatever. ;)

6-7K download speed.

and now on the cable modem I've peaked at 370K so far.

not exactly 100X.. but close enough for me.

My Guess is 780.

I've seen my PacBell DSL peak at 1.2Mbps downloading... but that's only when I'm the only person on the grid ;) normal traffic I get 150-200, and peak time is barely crackin 100.

I'm pulling 4Mpbs downstream on my DSL line :-p That's pretty dang close to 100x faster than dialup.

my guess is that there will be eleventy hunderd people over here, all depending on when teh i-club.com gets pointd over here.

Take the 23,928 currently registered (and yes, for member #'s VBulletin is very accurate). In my experience with boards over 1-year old, typically 10% (at best, but since this is a niche audience I'm being generous) are active users, minus another 5% which are dupe accounts (higher than normal, but not unusual considering how many people have been banned there over the years), take the 50/50 Alex vs. Nick split and what do you get? 1,136.58 (that's including one partially paraplegic Impreza owner) users over a span of the next three months. And that's not taking into account the attrition to other boards such as the Ultimate Subaru Message Board, RS25.com, plus other, non-brand specific sites, such as my own NW Auto Sports, and you may snag 800 total from I-Club...which would be a great start for any board.

I've run a few boards over the past few years, so I'm not just pulling this out of my a**.

Thanks Imprezer for the hint. That's why my account was gone mysteriously. :confused: I made sure I typed in the right thing by copying from the registration e-mail. It has happened twice to me, and I don't want to keep registering new IDs.

I must have missed the "rules" on keeping the membership so I rarely post messages (most of the time I just browsed the forums anonymously). Now I know what I should have done. ;)
