I have a flat tire and I put the spare tire on. My car is a manual WRX 2002. I read the manual and it is very hard to figure out. But it appears that I might need to insert a fuse in the fuse boox to dissable the all wheel drive system and enable just front wheel drive FWD.

Has anybody done this? How do you do it? What size fuse do you use? Do I need to do it with a manual or only with an automatic? My car is a turbo.

PLEASE HELP ME....

I think it's for auto only - but swap your tires around so that your spare is up front - the front diff is open so it can absorbs the difference in tire size.

See I have it on the rear. I figure it is better on the rear and if I can dissable AWD then leave it in the rear and it would not cause problems.

Anybody else know anything?

Manuals have a Viscous style center diff....
It also has a LSD rear diff...

There is NO way to disengauge the AWD.

DO NOT TRAVEL AT HIGH SPEEDS... I haven't read the manual but below 50mph if I rember...

Ok. Thanks. I will just go slow and hopefully tomorrow the new tire will be in.

How much should a factory 205-55-16 V-rated tire cost?

Yea, if you can, put it on the front. You can only convert the auto's to FWD by pulling the fuse.

interesting...i'm assuming this is EMERGENCY only?

i would just be careful and take it easy with the spare. pulling fuses is scary when messing with everything running off the computer these days...just my dos pesos though

FWD can only be activated on non-WRX 4EAT's and yes it is only for emergencies. I drove around in FWD on a donut for 2 days and over 100 miles. It was not fun. No damage done but lots of nasty noises and twitchy handling.

i wouldn't worry about pulling out the fuse. just dont drive
long distances and at high speeds (for the sake of the spare not bursting).

im sure these cars are much more rugged than you think...afterall,
its for everyone's use....some people haven't even read the
owner's manual.

The Manual doesn't say its for 4EAT's only though...doesnt the manual say for ALL WRX's...?

The reason why you can just pull the fuse on the 4EAT to make the car FWD only is because of the center diff. 4EAT uses a diff that can be biased electronically (with the help of hydraulics of course), where as MT uses viscous center diff. You cannot make the MT FWD only by pulling the AWD fuse (or some say putting on a fuse, I can't remember).
