Hi everyone, Just got a 2003 2.5 RS and love it.
Want to know if there is a kit or how to article on adding a functional hood scoop. I would like to add a WRX hood scoop to my car but would like it to be functional too. Either air intake or cooling. Any thoughts and ideas? Also any good recommendations for hood scoop vendors?

you could just get wrx hood with the hoodscoop. maybe find someone that wants to trade that did a front mount intercooler. why not just get a different intake like an injen cai that goes in the fender. i think its better than using the hoodscoop. unles you are going turbo and getting a TMIC then i'd go get the hoodscoop

Khail, here in Reno added a WRX hoodscoop to his existing 2.5 hood. Cut out the hood underneath the scoop, and scrapped his airbox/intake for a ram filter attached to his Throttle Body.

As far as using a "functional" hoodscoop for cooling, I'm not a mechanic, but I think it'd be a wasted effort. The WRX cools its intercooler with the scoop, and of course a N/A has no use for an intercooler.

Anyway, it's been done for ram air intake, with decent results AFAIK.

oh btw, the darn RS hood is heavier than the wrx hood. i would find an used wrx hood... :)

Yeah it's really heavy compared to my dad's wrx hood...seems like a 40-50lb difference

i bought a brand new wrx hood scoop from a guy on ebay who swapped it for the sti scoop , only cost me $30 ,havent mounted yet . still not sure if iam gonna make it functional and go with a ram air box, or mount it closed just 4 looks.

Anyhow, ive seen wrx scoops from other sellers on ebay going for $30 - $60

Depending on if you just want looks you could just go for the replacement rally hood like on the WRC car which does look good from the pictures. You can get this from procarparts.com or at http://www.i-m-racing.com/stiralstylre.html

I would like to find a used WRX hood but the chances of that seem pretty slim. Does anyone know of anybody selling one?

It will be a little tricky to install a non functional hood scoop on the RS hood. The WRX as a little "pocket" to mount the scoop in. The RS does not have it so the hood scoop edges will sit up on the hood so it will not be flush with the hood and will look a little weird. I just checked cause i almost bought one to put on my RS. As for buying a WRX hood if you have to get it repainted it will cost you a couple of hundred to paint the pearl paint. It will be cheaper just to buy a carbon fiber hood.
