Gas mileage w/ vf30,34,39 or 16g upgrade?

Searched already but looking to get some more info.

So for you usdm 2.0L guys, what are you getting for gas mileage with your vf30,34,39 or 16g upgrade? (running tmic) Those are the turbos I may consider putting in my car next year if funds permit. I already have a pretty good setup tuned with the tdo4 right now, but all I'll need next for an upgrade is turbo/fp/inj/tune. Also, I already have a big tmic on the car so that would go well with a slightly bigger turbo, looking for ~250whp and above. Whatever you 02-05 WRX guys are getting for mpg, mine will probably be a bit less due to the 4.11 gearing in the RS tranny.

So you're getting around 16-17mpg right now I guess, assuming the wrx gas tank is the same as the rs which I think it is (15.9gal). I already get 17mpg city driving so I guess it would be about the same?

^ The meth has to help your mpg some though right? I wouldn't be running 850cc's though, probably just 565's.

^ no my meath is on a window switch, comes in on 9psi, most of the time I try not to boost when I drive so I don't really get into the meth.

Sounds pretty decent. I'm leaning more towards the 34 or 16g but I keep seeing 39's going for soo cheap so I might get tempted and pick one of those up.

If your on a tight budget then a 39 is good..execpt for the fact that over time you may get the hairline crack by the wastegate? 16g's aren't bad..but you might as well get the 39... but if you wiling to cough out the cash..i'd go with a 18g.

I believe there is a thread about these turbo's and the details about them.

yah my car is running extremely rich...
so city driving isnt that good.. also i tend to step on the pedal more. If i drive keeping limit i can pull 300miles but on freeway i get 300+ keeping speed limit.

Hi Jeff, I'm on a VF39 "budget turbo" + supporting mods on a conservative tune from Mike. I put down about 240whp on the mustang. Mixed city/hwy I average between 21-22/mpg. with a moderate foot (get on it a little when I need to, merging, on ramps etc). On the freeway I can get consistently in the 24/mpg range cruising at about 75mph. Hope this helps in your data collection.

There are also the VF43, and the VF48 from the STI's (don't remember which years get which turbo).

a factor for my bad gas mileage might be because ive been flooring it a lot XD but i think my estimate is close to accurate
