ANy recommendations on places in the New England area to take a week or weekend class to help one's driving skills?

I was thinking of signing up for one. Most people post that you can put all the $$ you want into mods but first learn how to handle the power...

Costs all depend on which class you are taking. For example Tim O'Neal has a winter safety class, a one day performance class, a two perf class, a rally weekend, 4 day classes ect. Cost range from 150ish to a couple thousand.

Look at the different school's schedules and one or two of them might have times slotted for limerock,ct.

The season starts in April. Even after one or two events, you WILL know your car 100% better and MUCH better how to handle the car.
Plus, its SO MUCH FUN!!!

Boston BMW club member ship is 35 a year, then events are 25 each. Im sure there is something similar in your area.

There are many, many clubs who hold schools both on the track and autocross courses. If you're in CT, then certainly Lime Rock and NHIS are pretty much in reach. Most clubs require that you become a member first, so it's going to cost you around $30 per club to join. Or you can look at schedules and determine which club is doing a school that you can attend. Also, be aware that some of these schools get full very quickly, so if there's an entrance date of April 2, by April 3rd, you're probably too late. The schools with clubs tend to be in the $150 per day on average using your own car and you'll need your own helmet (Snell 95 for the 02 season with most). You'll get classroom work and then drive with an instructor on the track for 3 or 4 20 minute sessions. In most clubs, you'll also spend an hour or so flagging a corner.

You have learned already one very important point. All the mods in the world will do less to improve your speed than even one day learning at the track. I often see newbies come to the track and improve their lap time by 5 seconds.

Use a google search for the following clubs who run at the above tracks. If you search in this order, you'll probably find the most track days first and less as you go down the list.

You can also spend the $$ for the Skip Barber course at Lime Rock. You'll get better instruction from seasoned racers and more time overall and get to use their cars. Depends on how much $$ you want to spend and how many track days you can do.

If you got the recent wrxrally news letter, they have an article about doing amatuer rally cross. You have to join the SCCA then you can participate in the races at different levels. Ive already filled out my app.
