View Full Version : Hella Supertones install
spoonchucks 04-15-2008, 10:09 PM Delivered this afternoon! I'll be installing these in the morning (couldnt this evening, I had class). Soon as I got home, I wired em all up and did some recon under the hood. Still cant figure out how to remove the grill. Looks like I'll be working around it. Hope it dont break.
I'll post some pics once I'm done.
PS - we need the 08 DIY's to start rolling out.
thaSicness 04-15-2008, 11:15 PM very nice! and good luck. haha. post some after pics!
ipozestu 04-16-2008, 08:18 AM You really don't have to install the relay. The stock wiring is sufficient. Contrary to popular belief the is no DB difference.
spoonchucks 04-16-2008, 02:09 PM Installed!
Although I am having second thoughts on the mounting location of the relay... When the hood is closed, you can see the ground plain as day.

Meh. A free relay is a free relay.:D
As far as the dB difference, I beg to differ... After I dragged my wife outside to brag about the install, she sat in the driver's seat and (without telling me) honked it while I was cleaning up (standing in front of the car). It felt like a grenade went off next to my head.
ipozestu 04-16-2008, 02:21 PM No no no, you misunderstood. There certainly is a HUGE difference between Hellas and OEM. The idea that they are louder if you use the relay as opposed to the stock wiring has been thrown around for quite some time.
Anyway nice job on the install. Don't give any of those geriatrics a heart attack with your new tooters..
ipozestu 04-16-2008, 02:23 PM Oh one other item of note: When you work on your car from now on, take the keys out of your pocket to avoid pressing the panic button on accident. It's happened more times than I can count and I never get used to having my ears drums blown out.

LOL! The wife incident is enough to make me consider wearing earplugs from now on. ;)
omygata 04-16-2008, 04:41 PM Def adds some flavor the 08. I didn't install the relay either, too much extra wiring.

You ain't kidding about the extra wiring. I didn't like where the relay was mounted, so I just deleted it and used the stock wiring.
Not sure about other years, but the hardest thing about the install was finding (and running an extension from) the second horn. To any other 08 owners thinking about installing, feel free to ask me. After spending 3+ hours under the hood, I feel pretty confident about the whole horn install thing. :nerd:
ejicon 10-16-2008, 11:04 PM nice.. I painted mine black and will install this weekend. Anymore pix of the install?
ethernectar 11-10-2008, 08:15 PM I've seen them but I don't think I've ever heard them. How much louder are they, and what do they sound like?
PROGress 12-09-2008, 03:43 PM Any updates on an actual DIY install? If none by next week, I will be making one...cheerz.
subie101 01-08-2009, 01:02 PM Im pumped, i just ordered some this afternoon! after driving behind my friend and layin on the horn and him not hearin anything i decided to get some.
subie101 01-17-2009, 06:22 PM I just got mine in! In case someone else is looking to put these in and you get them in and one doesn't work or sound right you may have to turn the screw on back of the horn. I didn't know this and was frustrated with them, hope the same trouble doesn't happen to anyone else.
offseasonmvp 02-03-2009, 07:24 AM I know what i want now...
