I wanted to get some feedback from everyone about bringing Member #'s back. My idea behind it is to bring a more club atmosphere back to the community. Let me know what you think.

I voted no because they are pointless, they reflect very little relevance in any situation

No rep system....they use it on Zilvia and it is the Ghey. It really has no point, and can actually hurt a person that is trying to sell/buy stuff if they are in the negative because some dip disagreed with what they had to say and decided to negative rep them.....

Only purpose of having user numbers....to see how long someone has been a member. Doesn't reflect someone's sense or knowledge.....

No way. I know this isn't NASIOC or anything, but if you've seen it over there they just judge people by their member numbers. It gets rather annoying.

you dorks are saying no because you have '05/'06 join dates and will be made fun of for having higher member numbers.

Then you can see some people's member numbers and post counts sometimes totally don't add up...

I wouldnt mind.

Join date = member number = same thing.

 It's not like you can't find out someone member #... just look at their profile link...

for example:

http://www.i-club.com/forums/member.php?u=334

Look, my member # :)

But I agree... member numbers tend to create issues (sometimes)

Thats not exactly true. I joined day 1 nov 2002 and my number says 159999 or something, somehow the system added 3 "9's" to the end of my true number. Thats why I say just go by join date.

What ever the forum gurus decide is what I shall abide by ...post count means nothing-except by those who love to see themselves in their own mirror.

This wouldn't be for status. This would be more for membership #'s.
I'm confused... this would be so you could say "hey, I'm i-club member # 235954?" So you could print your member # on your car, on a laminated member card, etc?

If that's the case, then I'm failing to see a real value in identifying people by a membership #, rather than just a handle, that's probably used on other forums as well.

The notion of a club atmosphere is interesting, but I don't see the reality of it, without downsizing considerably. i-club has a very wide appeal today, in part because it is an open forum, doesn't require paid membership, etc.

Membership #'s would seem more applicable to local chapters, if there was organized meets and events, where you would request a membership # for that local chapter... local parts suppliers could enter your membership #, check against DL, and give you a discount, that sort of thing.

Based on the current description, and lack of more info, I'd be against this. It will either be incremental (aka join date) and be a status thing, or it will be a random number that adds clutter.
