View Full Version : '02 RS front pads/rotors?
b_tapper 11-30-2002, 10:23 PM Anyone make pads or rotors yet? I'd rather not buy oem pads and rotors or a wrx front setup.
I so hate my RS...can't wait for the new restyled wrx to get here
ImprezaRSDriver 12-01-2002, 08:53 PM I believe that your rotors and brakes are the same size as the WRX rotors and calipers on the RS. So to answer your question, there is just soo much stuff out there for the WRX, that would bolt right on to your RS.
push2 12-01-2002, 10:55 PM I second that motion...

nope
02+ rs/ts/obs use a different front caliper and rotor
There was a big argument over this a few months ago until I provided parts numbers and went to the dealer to prove they were different parts

So the caliper is completely different? Even the brackets? I find it hard that Subaru would use a completely different caliper, but a different size rotor, I can understand. I am not sure then, the only thing I would imagine is that your front brakes are the ones from the original 2.5RS which had 10.7" rotors. But the caliper is the same as the WRX, with just a different braket and pad.
b_tapper 12-03-2002, 11:36 PM Yeah it's typical subaru
The wrx uses the old caliper with it's own braket and rotors in the front
The RS uses a different caliper, bracket, pads, and rotor
They both share the same rear brake setup though
I can go on and on about how SOA says the rs and wrx are the same (suspension, brakes, etc), but when you go under the 2 cars they are sooo different.

Concillian 12-04-2002, 12:27 AM Apparently they changed the 03 WRX to the same setup. On the other forums Stoptech and Carbotech had a thread discussing it. Check that out, there may be some out or some out soon. (You may have linked to that thread already, I haven't been following it, and I can't get to the other forums right now to check your links)
I know Carbotech can put any of their pads on your old backing plates if you want... Though you'd need something in the interim.
b_tapper 12-04-2002, 12:53 AM I was expecting them to change the caliper sooner or later. I guess all usdm Subarus use the same front caliper now.
b_tapper 12-04-2002, 12:55 AM So far there hasn't been any cars thet have changed their front pads locally yet
I'm at 26k and they said I should be able to go to my next service before they might need replacing. (can't see going 36k miles on a set of pads)
Kobayashi 12-04-2002, 01:50 PM Well in reference to rotors try DBA, Mountain or Brembo for your car.
In reference to pads, I believe Carbotech will have a pad available shortly(if not already) for your car.

silentrob_95 12-09-2002, 03:48 PM hey b_tapper, when did you have to change your brake pads? I think my RS OEM pads are starting to make some noises. And I agree the new RS is a pain in the a$$ with some parts.
b_tapper 12-09-2002, 04:33 PM haven't changed them yet and I'm at 26k miles
I'm amazed they've lasted this long with all the racing I do
Hopefully they'll last until I can sell the car..oem rotors and pads are really expensive.
DetailAddict 12-12-2002, 05:26 PM see what they can do for you. I order a set of rotors from them for my sis. not bad, took a little long. but good deal. good luck
