View Full Version : The deadly dentist's chair
Ayapon 11-21-2002, 05:37 PM So I had to go in for a cleaning today, and I'm a total wimp when it comes to dental pain. I swear, even with the numbing gel they put on, my knuckles were white. :( Even an hour later my legs were a bit weak, but hey, if I can drive home in my subie, I'll be a happy person again. :)
(so the lesson today folks is preventative dental care! floss, brush, and go see the dentist regularly so you can avoid the heavy drills. )
Buddha 11-21-2002, 05:40 PM I was traumatized as a kid after seeing "The Little Shop Of Horrors". That damn dentist (steve martin) and those pliers...OUCH...it still hurts to think about it
yeah i am not much of a fan of the dentist, i try not to go, but anytime i go home my mom is always bugging me to go.
Imprezinator 11-21-2002, 05:46 PM Dentists suck...

Daios 11-21-2002, 06:54 PM just ask them to give you some nitrous  (some nawwwwzz)
but really... thats what my cousin told me when she was studying dental hygene at UCSF. they give them nitrous and that numbing thing and you won't care about anything and it won't hurt :p
hokusai 11-21-2002, 07:15 PM the dentist hates me! if i need x rays, i gag like crazy when she tries to put it in! shes tried everything yet i still gag. i just learned recently to relax and breathe though my nose and i wont have a proble for like 15 seconds. she has to hurry outta the room to snap it. then i gag the film out. hahaha

Just don't go to Dr. Khodai in Woodland if you'd prefer not getting drilled into. My current dentist (Dr. Steeb - who rocks) thinks he's from the school of thought that if something looks suspiciously like a cavity, then it must be a cavity, so drilling time it is!
I went to Dr. Khodai in the spring of 2001 for cleaning, which was completed just fine. But then Dr. Khodai tells me I have 4 cavities! So I'm all scared, but when I go see another dentist (my current on in the bay area), Dr. Steeb tells me that they are not cavities, but just look "suspicious" and that he'll keep an eye on them. Dr. Steeb is of the more conservative school, which I'm grateful for.
Also, what's really cool is that I got an appt for an exam & xrays with Dr. Steeb 5 days from when I called their office, and an appt for cleaning 2 days after the exam. :) I may not like the pain, but that's some customer service!
butters 11-22-2002, 02:30 AM remember when you got your wisdom teeth pulled? oh man thats like one of the worst dental experiences ever....

that's next for me. :( i'm going to be a real pitiful case if/when they pull those out. i'm crossing my fingers for not needing to get them pulled (i'm supposed to make an appt w/ the oral surgeon). now where's that crying icon that would sum up my feelings right now? :(

The only thing that sux about getting ur wizdom teeth pulled is dat u cant drive afterwards due to the anesthesia. Anesthesia is great tho. At least for me it was. I totally didnt noe how i got in my room after surgery. i jus woke up and i was there! weird.
anyways, jus look for surgeon that does a good job. i went to Dr. Graves here in vallejo. No pain. No puffy cheaks. Nothin. Friends were dissappointd tho cuz they couldn't make fun of me.

Lobster Man 11-23-2002, 07:22 PM I just hate that damn drill noise. I hear they invented a basically silent one though.

Karlos 11-24-2002, 12:14 PM I finally got mine pulled about a week ago. It wasn't bad a few shots and 40 min later all 4 were out. Two of them impacted. The drill and cracking was killer but screw it. and yes I drove my ass home afterwards :) hell I had steak the next day..
Hollandaze 11-24-2002, 01:38 PM I hated having my wisdom teeth out. I had gauze in my mouth for weeks and well, I won't go into detail. Time went by pretty quick and I was fine after a few weeks (I'm a wuss, of course it took that long). I also went in for teeth cleaning last Wednesday and they use that damned metal pick that hurts like hell. I also hate that chalkboard-like cringing noise you hear when they're scraping.
ColinL 11-24-2002, 09:46 PM I've never had a single cavity in my life (I'm 27). I take good care of my teeth, except I waited too long to get my wisdom teeth pulled.
Finally had 'em yanked in Feb of this year, only after major pain from my jaw getting misaligned a bit due to the wisdom teeth. But anyway, after a month or so my jaw was back to normal... until last week.
For one week now, my jaw has been hurting in the same place it did before my wisdom teeth were extracted. I'm not sure if stuff is just moving around for some reason or if I got smacked in the jaw and didn't know it... but it sucks. I've been living on a diet of stuff that doesn't take much chewing like eggs, soup, pasta...
If I force myself to chew afterwards it hurts like hell. And in the morning, it always feels a lot better...
