everything is pretty much working.

just going through the system devided and i'll fix the rest of the ones w/ the "!" tommorow.

yay! this is the first time I ever had to uninstall an OS and go to an older one.

the computer is flying now!

Are you doing something other than just reformatting the HD and installing XP from scratch?

Microsoft has made 2GB the new 128k.

A few years back I bought a computer just after WinME had come out, and MS was pushing that on everyone. After that, I'll never go to a new Microsoft OS until it's been out for at least a year -- right now I have to keep suppressing the urge to run out and buy all the copies of XP I can still find on the shelf. (Well, and after ME I switched to mostly using Linux and more recently OS X.)

vista would be cool if:

it was on a minimum of service pack 1
it wasn't so damn slow
it wasn't such a resource hog
didn't require 15 gigs of harddrive space!!!!

Yeah, I'm not so sure about Vista yet myself..
I was looking at in in Best Buy and every time I simply moved the mouse. the CPU usage went to 7%.

On my Core2 Duo I have with XP, I can watch an HDTV stream and us 8% CPU...

this duo w/ XP 2 gig ram is amazing right now.

this vaio w/ vista ... its like buying a porsche and putting a ton of bricks to weight it down.

i stayed up 'wil 4 last night taking the bricks out. so worth it.

I agree. My dad got a cheapo Compaq for $350 which came with decent RAM, 3.3ghz Celeron Solo processor and a 120gb HD and was loaded with Vista Basic.

When we first loaded it, it took 5 minutes to load up the desktop and "settle".

LOL, Win ME was the most worthless piece of crap(I installed it once to check it out, had to format my drive again after only a few days to put win2000 back on)...XP isn't so bad...I remember when I first saw XP (RC1 or something) I was like WOW, it loads so fast, can't believe it is so old!
