everything is pretty much working.
just going through the system devided and i'll fix the rest of the ones w/ the "!" tommorow.
yay! this is the first time I ever had to uninstall an OS and go to an older one.
the computer is flying now!

Are you doing something other than just reformatting the HD and installing XP from scratch?
I saw a study that said Vista has a slower and less responsive interface than XP or Win98. Even if you turn off all the eye candy you can, it's only almost as responsive as 98 and still a far cry from XP. And I've seen multiple reports that it requires 4GB to run well. Microsoft has made 2GB the new 128k.
A few years back I bought a computer just after WinME had come out, and MS was pushing that on everyone. After that, I'll never go to a new Microsoft OS until it's been out for at least a year -- right now I have to keep suppressing the urge to run out and buy all the copies of XP I can still find on the shelf. (Well, and after ME I switched to mostly using Linux and more recently OS X.)

Yeah, I'm not so sure about Vista yet myself..
I was looking at in in Best Buy and every time I simply moved the mouse. the CPU usage went to 7%.
On my Core2 Duo I have with XP, I can watch an HDTV stream and us 8% CPU...

When we first loaded it, it took 5 minutes to load up the desktop and "settle".
