I went to PZero Nero M&S Pirelli tires for $125 each 225/45 17's on my '05 STI. You can get this price from Tire Rack or similar on line website or get your local dealer to price match it, like I did at Wheel Works. They were highly rated for the price for handling, wearability, etc.
PS - This belongs in Tires & Wheels forum.

Might try Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or A/S or Pilot Exalto A/S..

You can eliminate M+S rated tires - no snow on Oahu and no mud unless you go off-road. Stick with summer performance tires. Check Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com/)'s site for recommendations and comparisons.

I used to live in HI, think summer, think rain. The pirelli's are agreat tire. In the rain they kick ass, flat out handling tey kick ass. I thk I am going to replace the ones I have now with another set. I love them.

RE070 are quite possibly the worst tire in the world for driving in the rain.
Oh welcome SineSTI

If you have just one set of tires to run year round, get one of the summer tires rated for good rain performance. They are characterized by deep grooves to channel standing water on the road surface to greatly reduce hydroplaning. Honolulu can get maybe 20 inches of rain per year but some inland parts of Oahu can receive up to 200 inches of rain, deep in the rain forest. At least, that is what I was told when I visited many years ago.
Yes, I know that members can vouch for RE070 in the rain but you can drive road racing slicks in the rain if you drive super cautiously. Proper summer/rain tires allow you a much greater margin of safety and handling over dry weather tires like the RE070. Unless you're a rain-meister like the late Senna, I'd be conservative in a tire choice.

Best rain tires to go with are the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. For the price, it is pretty much the best handling in the wet, and has pretty good handling in the dry.
Just go to tirerack and read the reviews, and test results. They also have a link to Car and Driver's tire test results as well.

Goodyear F1 GS D3's

The Goodyear GSD3s are great summer street tires and outstanding in the wet. They compare to Bridgestone S03s in terms of wet and dry traction, but the S03s have stiffer sidewalls which result in better handling and turn-in response at the expense of a rougher ride. There is also the Hankook RS2, which is cheap, super grippy, good in the wet, and has stiff sidewalls as well. It is probably the best overall choice for a year-round performance tire in Hawaii IMO.
