Police tried to calm the teen, but Holyfield became combative, according to the statement

The kid was acting crazy.
Possibly a threat to others or himself.
He did not obey orders from a cop.
They used less than lethal force to protect him &/or others.
I highly doubt that the cops thought process included, "Hey, I could kill this dude & get away with it."

It's obvious that God simply granted this lost soul his wish.

combative... with a bible?? if your a cop & you're scared of some 17yr old kid holding a book then you sir are a certified ***** and you shouldnt be a cop, you should be working at bloomingdales.

I dont think its SOP to hit someone with 2 tazers at the same time and if there were 2 tazers that = at least 2 cops so you're telling me that 2 cops couldnt handle a kid with a book for a weapon?? Usually "less than lethal" force is only used on someone that looks like a serious threat to themselves or others, i.e. someone with a weapon. A tazer is an alternative to using a pistol, do you think someone armed with a book requires lethal force?? Sounds to me like these idiots were a little too anxious to use their new toys & thought it would be funny to watch this kid flop... now hes dead.

In this case an old fashoined nightstick to the face would have been appropriate.

If I was a cop i would have just shot him.... Cops get the taz ANYONE they feel just tazing, and trust me... if someone doesn't matter their size and shape gets "combatize" it is sure as hell in their juristiction to taz the living **** outa them

I know and i hate it because they literally get away with murder because they would rather be lazy & electrocute someone then try to get a little physical & subdue them. I could look at a cop funny & he could taze me, electrocute me to death then say i was combative and get off scott free. And yes the nightstick to the face is less lethan than a tazer, 150 some odd deaths in the last 5 years from tazers... think about how many people get tazered vs. how many got nightsticked, just go to sac county- that bad boy is CHOCK FULL of people with lumped up skulls from nightsticks- and they're still alive.

Cops get away with murder and everyone just buys their story... like the guy they killed a few months ago that was carrying a ballpoint pen. Or the soldier that just got back from iraq they shot while he was laying on the ground on a traffic stop... they just throw that "combative" word out there & everything is ok??

and why wouldnt they just use pepper spray? theres no weapon... clearly they just wanted to shock the **** out of someone for fun & it ended up with someone dead.

lets take a look here
17yr old armed with book vs. 2 cops with guns, tazers, sticks, pepper spray etc.

oh but he was "combative" so that totally justifies killing an innocent kid

i dont think you realize how easily this could happen to anyone... make one wrong step towards the cop or say one thing he doesnt like & he can kill you and get away with it... how does that make you feel?

The problem with making cops fight is it then takes away the edge that the cops have over your average joe shmoe... Odds are Joe Shmoe the criminal is a better fighter then Richard The Doughnut Eater, don't you think that's a little off... that the criminal is now on the same playing feild as someone trying to with hold justice? That's like saying we shouldn't be able to use our battleships in Iraq and shoot missles at them from hundreds of miles away because the Iraqies can't do anything about it...

And much like everything else in this world, power can corrupt... So their will be cops who mis-use their powers... just like their our presidents who mis-use theirs... It's a cycle, all you can do is try to avoid it the best you can by Psychological tests that all cops have to go through and many more tests... after that there really isn't much more that you can do other then harsher punishments for people who do mess up other then the 30 days off WITH pay **** they get now

Im def. not against tazers, i have seen more than a few cases where the only other option would be lethal force & it actually saved the criminal.. im opposed to dual tazering an unarmed child to death. There is NO reason to dual tazer someone that i can think of, i have seen a single tazer put down a 350 pound guy in 2 seconds so i cant imagine why they would hit a kid twice.

and why not pepper spray?? i just dont think they emphasize enough that these tazers could kill someone, they use them like they're harmless toys...

See, when you are making an ass of yourself, and the police ask you nicely to stop doing whatever it is you are doing, and you fail to comply... whatever happens next is your own fault. It's not like that dude that died was sitting around meditating when he got tazed. He was resisting arrest and/or failing to comply with a lawful order from a LEO. I don't see why it's so wrong for the officer to use the simplest means at his disposal for subduing and apprehending the young man. It's a terrible tragedy that it killed him, but cops aren't all evil because of it.

If I may share a personal experience? About six years ago, I got busted for public intoxication. To make a long story short, I was also suspected of vandalism and theft. I fled on foot away from the scene of the alleged crimes and the accuser and tried in vain to hide in the second story level of a two-story retail shopping center.

When the police showed up in two squad cars, with lights flashing, spotlights blazing, and three guns drawn on me, even in my drunken stupor I knew damn well to do exactly what the officers said. I replied "Yes, sir" or "No, sir", didn't give them any crap, and considering the situation I *think* I acted as considerate and politely as possible. In return, I didn't get tazered, I didn't get roughed-up, and I can't recall even getting yelled at. My advice is, when the police show up, quit ****in' around and do as they say, 'cause fun and games are over.

Just my $0.02 worth.

A kid with a bible =/= a 350lb mean looking bald man

that big dude could have clearly crushed the skulls of those cops if he really wanted to, they were in danger. What is a 17yr old kid with a bible gonna do? read threatening bible stories at them? throw paper? and they tazed the kid TWICE.....TWICE.... look what it did to that big guy what do you think it did to the kid?

I'm not sayign the officers were threatened by him... I'm saying that if you wanna be a punk and **** with police officers, it's your fault when you get tazed/clubbed/tackled/etc. in the process of being arrested. The officers aren't being big bad ogres who are thrill-killing, they were doing their job- arresting a lawbreaker. If nancy-boy hadn't felt the need to ignore the law of hs municipality, he'd still be thumping that bible today.

Mr. Furley, did you read the report? You are intitled to your opinion, I'm just wondeing what it is your mad at. Do you hate the police for the fact that they are police?

ERSEYVILLE, Illinois (AP) -- A teenager carrying a Bible and shouting "I want Jesus" was shot twice with a police stun gun and later died at a St. Louis hospital, authorities said.

In a statement obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press, police in Jerseyville, about 40 miles north of St. Louis, said 17-year-old Roger Holyfield would not acknowledge officers who approached him and he continued yelling, "I want Jesus."

Police tried to calm the teen, but Holyfield became combative, according to the statement. Officers fired the stun gun at him after he ignored their warnings, then fired again when he continued struggling, police said.

Holyfield was flown to St. Louis' Cardinal Glennon Hospital after the confrontation Saturday; he died there Sunday, police said.

An autopsy was planned for Tuesday.

The statement expressed sympathy to Holyfield's family but said city and police officials would not discuss the matter further.

Calls Tuesday to Jerseyville Police Chief Brad Blackorby were not immediately returned. The department has been using stun guns for about five months, according to the statement.

In a report released in March, international human rights group Amnesty International said it had logged at least 156 deaths across the country in the previous five years related to police stun guns.

The rise in deaths accompanies a marked increase in the number of U.S. law enforcement agencies employing devices made by Taser International Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona. About 1,000 of the nation's 18,000 police agencies used Tasers in 2001; more than 7,000 departments had them last year, according to a government study.

Police had used Tasers more than 70,000 times as of last year, Congress' Government Accountability Office said.

Amnesty International has urged police departments to suspend the use of Tasers pending more study. Taser International said the group's count was flawed and falsely linked deaths to Taser use when there has been no such official conclusion.

some math:

156 deaths per 70,000 taser discharges = 1 death per 448 times a taser is used.

ide like to point a few things out here:

a night stick/baton to the head is considered deadly force and is prohibited by most departments.

as you know tazers are in the "less than lethal catagory." obviously they can kill, but the situations in which that happens are fairly special.

so lets see, what would i do in the situation. i arrive on scene with a young suspect acting 5150 and i dont know if he is armed or not or on drugs. as i try to calm him down he becomes aggresive and obviously im going to fear for the worse. again, not knowing if he is armed or not im going to be very cautious, if hes on drugs my OC spray will most likely have no effect, so worrying about getting hurt myself and doing serious damage to the suspect, i would chose the elecrtonic device. after one ride hes still not cooperating, so i activate it again and give him another ride. now i have a suspect under control, and no injured officers or public, and no worries about a police brutality suit.

its unfortunate that he died. but the other alternative in the situation was to attack him and risk injurying him and the officers, or shooting him. he had a chance at life with the tazer, but its a shame it didnt happen.

bottom line is: he should have cooperated and it never woulda happened.

Im mad at the fact that they tazed an unthreatening person TWO ****ING TIMES.... obviously once is enough for ANYONE so WHY TWICE???

And you people swallow the cops word like its ****in gospel or something, HOW THE **** COULD A LITTLE KID WITH A BIBLE BE CONSIDERED COMBATIVE???!?@?#?@$@

if some 17yr old kid came up to me yelling crazy **** with a bible in his hand i wouldnt feel the least bit like my life was in danger, would you??? and if i did i would knock his teeth out or dip him on the ground, not try to electrocute him. Im pissed because cops get away with murdering just because they have a badge but if i just HIT someone they would try to lock me up for years.

this guy got it 5 times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9GGzMkOF5o

not cooperating, getting aggresive, oficer did what it took to safely take the suspect into custody.

EDIT: you act like a tazer knocks someone unconscious and they need to be revived back to life.

here is someone doing his training, which includes a full ride.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2zTjOy2YfE&mode=related&search=

notice, he loses control of his muscles during the ride and is back to 100% within seconds.

you are such an ignorant ****head it isnt even funny anymore.

so if they charged him and hit him with nightsticks youde say it was police brutality and that they should be thrown in jail, if they taze him you say it could have killed and they should have attacked him, and if they shoot him youde say they should have tazed him.

Salt Lake City, Utah, October 29, 2006 - Today Cobb Tuning, Inc. announced the release of the completely redesigned AccessPORT™ handheld programmer and software for Subaru vehicles with planned support for Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda, and Toyota vehicles in the future.

With next-generation features and design along with Cobb Tuning's unique on-the-fly tuning technology, the new AccessPORT is another example of the well-engineered products Cobb Tuning is dedicated to provide its customers."

The AccessPORT by Cobb Tuning, Inc. is a handheld programmer that allows you to unlock your vehicle's hidden potential by reprogramming the stock Engine Control Unit (ECU). Performance tuning data is uploaded to the ECU via the OBD-2 diagnostic port in a matter of minutes, and requires no cutting, wiring, or other such modifications. This technology allows the AccessPORT to get the most performance out of your vehicle in the least amount of time.

Using off-the-shelf staged tuning maps along with the appropriate vehicle modifications, the AccessPORT users can see power gains in excess of 50HP. Better yet, the AccessPORT truly unlocks the ability to extract a vehicle's peak potential through custom tuning for any level of modification.

The AccessPORT's features include:
