BA food snobs: whats your opinion of Michael Mina restaurant?
So i'm taking my gf out for dinner on her bday and i end up getting this gift certificate to use at Michael Mina (enough to cover nearly a whole dinner for two including wine) so basically i can probably take her out there for free.
But i dont really care about saving money to take her out, i'd rather make sure the food, ambiance and service is good.
Is this place any good or is it just some overpriced, pretentious crap?
I'm talking about this place btw:

I know, i had my own plans to go to the Spinnaker up in Sausalito, heard food is pretty good and view is breathtaking, honestly going to Union Sq just doesnt strike me quite as romantic.

It's good, but not great. the food is wonderful and the choise for their wine pearing is excellent, but the place is too friggin loud. Great service though.
other great places
1) Lark Creek Inn (Larkspur)
2) Fork (San Anselmo)
3) Girl and the Fig (Sonoma)
4) First Crush (SF and Mill Valley)
5) Aqua Rello "spelling" (means water color in Italian) (SF)
but i would have to say Fork is my all time favorite place.

Hmmm
One of my all time favorites is "Il Davide" (did I spell that right) in Marin. I think it's on B or C street off of 4th street. Really, really good Itialian food and one hell of a wine list.
That or Pizza Orgasmica in S.F. (just kidding). Good pizza though, if you're drunk off your *** and starving at 2:30 in the morning just having left the bars....

have not been to Michael Mina. i'll try calling my Mom & sis tomorrow to see if either of them have. they're the biggest food snobs i know. well, my mom is. my sis will go anywhere as long as the food is good.
as for your other choice, spinnaker isn't that great. IMO, the food was only fair not "pretty good", as mentioned hearing from someone else, but opinions & tastes are all relative. the view is pretty nice tho.
if you're looking for a spot w/ambiance to match food quality, I'd choose somewhere outside SF. There aren't too many spots that have real nice views AND great food to match. Most of the chez-chez $pot$ w/excellent food only have so-so views, if any.

Bella Vista on skyline is really good....very romantic too. A bit pricey if you have the lobster, a nice wine and finish with the souffle, but worth every penny.

if you really want a good restaurant i would go to Jeanty at Jacks in the financial. there are 2 other jeanty restaurants over in the napa valley area. Gary Danko would be another great restaurant to go to as well.
