Uhhh, the second one on the right... no no wait... the one on the left... no no wait... illmatic 11-27-2002, 12:28 AM Who made your rods? They look a lot beefier than the stock ones, thats for sure. I can't wait to see the final results. Jay DeliciouSpeed 11-27-2002, 07:22 AM Who made them? What's the weight compared to stock? I saw rods that look like those somewhere for $400...are those the ones? k2 Lobster Man 11-27-2002, 07:48 AM Those look really sweet, where'd you get them? stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 08:45 AM the shop that is building my block got them machined. i wish they were $400. they were $600. also they are quite a bit heavier than stock WRX-U 11-27-2002, 08:49 AM sweet...so they are custom machined? Stealth, if I wanted a set I assume you have specs or the place that is doing your block does.. stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 08:58 AM sure. there is another set of them right now that they are selling. unfortunately they want $800 if someone is just buying individual compononents. WRX-U 11-27-2002, 09:01 AM ...I haven't desided what internals I am using on my other block but I will PM you if and when ready. Much appreciated ~B stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 09:03 AM no problem azscoobie 11-27-2002, 10:00 AM OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhh I love Hundred shots of Nitrous and so will those rods. CT Dick Fitzwell 11-27-2002, 10:28 AM stealth, what are you building? i have noticed several threads about head work and such.. stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 11:35 AM dickfitzwell: i have been doing a motor build up for the last 4 months. it should be about 500 hp to the wheels. 4 months ago i fried my rings at the track and lost compression so i decided to build a monster motor. bottom end: i bought a brand new in the crate ej22 closed deck legacy short block and put the phase one ej25 crank in it. the displacement is now 2.4 liters and has a piston to rod ratio or 1.668. the crank is fully balanced and i am using the rods which you see above. the pistons will be here monday and then i send them to get coated. the block is machined a certain way for extra block to head sealing, about 10 times more than o-ringing the block. i am using 11mm arp head studs. head work: in about two hours i have a meeting with dan paramore and we will be discussing what i am doing with my heads. most likely i will be coating the valves, and getting custom valve springs, and retainers from him. he will also be doing all of the porting and polishing and what not. as far as custom lifters and shims, i am using an outside source for them. the cams will be stock profile. fuel: before i was running the walbro 255 lph fuel pump but i am going to get a 310 lph pump as soon as everything else is done to the motor. i have power enterprise 800 cc injectors, vishnu rails, aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, aeromotive fuel filter, and -8 line through the entire system with -6 return lines turbo and components: i am using a 60-1 turbonetics turbo with a stage 5 compressor and a .58 a/r. the turbo manifold is a www.wrxtuner.com manifold with up pipe. i am custom making the up pipe to turbo adapter and i am running a tial 40 mm wastegate with a .8 bar spring. i am going to use my blitz intercool that i was using before, but i am changing all of the piping, as my intake manifold is going to be flipped. i bought sti tvg housings which will be here shortly. the down pipe and exhaust will be custom made by me out of 321 stainless. engine management and tuner: ? i dont have a clue. i will take care of that last. drivetrain: either modena 5 speed dog box or sti 6 speed or something comparable that i have not seen yet. my options are still open. i will be using the exedy twin disc clutch and flywheel combo. cooling: pwr raditor with samco hoses. hope this helps. Lobster Man 11-27-2002, 11:37 AM How much is this all costing? stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 11:55 AM probably when i get it running in feb , march or april . $20,000. i have spent $10,000 already lets see what i bought turbo manifold $750 turbo $800 stainless tubing fori/c piping, downpipe and exhaust $500 tial 40 mm wastegate $350 complete build bottom end with new crate block $3500 radiator $500 fuel injectors $700 blow off valve with flange $200 blitz front mount kit $1000 fuel pressure regulator $130 sti tvg housings $165 15 feet of -6 fuel line $100 30 feet of -8 fuel line $200 fuel filter $100 an fittings, an wrenches, an lube $250 samco hoses $150 vishnu fuel rails $265 so far i have spend $9660 there are other little things too but i cant think of any know. this is what i still need head work with components $3000 engine management $2500 tuning $500 310 lph fuel pump $500 transmission $5000 Lobster Man 11-27-2002, 11:58 AM Cool. stealth-wrx 11-27-2002, 12:01 PM almost at 200 WRX-U 11-28-2002, 02:23 PM Stealth looking at the prices and the list of stuff I am going to need makes this look like its pretty far away for me and my motor build, but I'll get there one day! Great info either way and good luck on the build! ~B josh 11-29-2002, 04:27 PM stealth i am very much looking forward to your progress and cant wait to see it up and running, and what kind of performance you get. noce work! josh PS thanks for sharing the prices and fetails as well. very refresing to see people not to "top secret" about their build ups. thanks again stealth-wrx 11-29-2002, 06:38 PM i am never top secret with my stuff. i never got any deals or any hook ups with my stuff. i figure when my car is done i wont have to thank anyone but myself. no one offered to help me so no one gets credits in the end. believe me when this car is done you will hear about it. DeliciouSpeed 12-01-2002, 11:01 AM These are the rods I was talking about if anyone is interested. http://www.buschurracing.com/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?9X376545 k2 mr2guru 12-01-2002, 02:42 PM I had heard once that H-beam rods, while they won't bend, have a higher tendency for fatigue stress fractures over time. And that is why they are not used on production cars. But they are ideal for race engines requireing frequent rebuilds, giving a chance to inpspect the rods for this phenomenon often. Am I wrong?? Maybe this only applies to indy cars running 15k all the time? Maybe look into getting them cryo-treated if you already haven't. Stealth, Who built your bottem end? Have you heard about any shortfalls of the legacy EJ22T block over any other option? Or is it the affordable holy grail of buildups? 500whp in a street WRX is going to be insane!!!! DanMan 12-01-2002, 03:48 PM Originally posted by DeliciouSpeed These are the rods I was talking about if anyone is interested. http://www.buschurracing.com/cgi-bin/ez-catalog/cat_display.cgi?9X376545 k2 Wow, $400 is a good deal for a set of rods. Burschur is also a very reputable company (perhaps the most) for DSM. It's strange how those look EXACTLY like the ones stealth has. Dan DeliciouSpeed 12-02-2002, 07:50 AM I may buy a set and just hold em. k2 stealth-wrx 12-02-2002, 08:47 AM wow, they do look like mine. although mine are not made for a wrx as my stroke is different. also my rods will not fit around the wrx crank. sounds like a good deal though, but i wouldn't buy any rods off of the shelf. DeliciouSpeed 12-02-2002, 10:04 AM Why wouldn't you buy rods off the shelf? 128d 12-02-2002, 01:31 PM stealth-wrx that is awsome. Do you do alot of this work you self? DanMan 12-02-2002, 05:35 PM Originally posted by DeliciouSpeed Why wouldn't you buy rods off the shelf? Delicous, tasty, and nutricious displacement. DeliciouSpeed 12-02-2002, 07:37 PM I understand that custom rods are a must for your plans. But for a straight build, off the shelf rods are fine. k2 Kaos22B 12-28-2002, 08:49 PM Originally posted by stealth-wrx i am never top secret with my stuff. i never got any deals or any hook ups with my stuff. i figure when my car is done i wont have to thank anyone but myself. no one offered to help me so no one gets credits in the end. believe me when this car is done you will hear about it. some little fibbing dont you think Nick? stealth-wrx 12-29-2002, 11:32 AM what do you mean kian. when have i ever kept a secret from you. you always know what i am up to. stealth-wrx 12-29-2002, 11:35 AM as far as doing the work myself. i try to do as little as possible. i am not assembling the internal parts of the head or block but i am assembling the heads to the block and doing all of the simple stuff as i want it to be perfect.
