FWI, tires on an AWD car should not be more then 1/2" outter diameter different from one another.

Uhhmm.. I'm positive it isn't that much. Since what you're saying is don't have more than 1/4" difference in tread depth (considering top and bottom tread). Most brand new tires come with 10/32" (only one I can think off the top of my head that's not is the Nitto 555) of tread, 8/32" would be a 1/4", and no way could you run a 20% tread tire with a brand new one.

At MOST, you don't want more than 2/32" of difference in tread depth (which comes out to 1/8" total diameter) or in simpler terms, 20% tread.
