Our Gruppe-S Stage 2 High-Rev engine is the ultimate in high RPM performance. With its shorter stroke and lighter pistons, this 2.1 liter engine (due to oversize pistons) has an extremely rapid response making the engine great for road-race and other competition racing. This engine starts off life as the semi-closed JDM STI shortblock. We tear this engine down and install our nitrided crankshaft, Helix forged rods with ARP L19 rod bolts, custom Wiseco forged pistons, and coated race bearings. The crankshaft is then professional balanced to within +/- 1 gram, cylinder walls rehoned, and everything re-installed with tolerances carefully checked. With our stage engines you will not have any problems with excessive oil consumption or rocking pistons. The block is semi-closed and can safely support up to 30psi of boost pressure without cooling issues (as opposed to closed deck blocks). This engine is perfect for the enthusiast looking for an engine that can safely rev to 8500RPM* and hold over 550HP.

These are all the parts needed to build a 2.0L turbocharged motor (WRX or JDM STi) into a serious power making 2.2L stroker motor. This motor should be capable of holding 550 crank HP while revving to 7500 RPM if properly balanced. It includes the following:

Our Stage 1 shortblock replaces the components we feel are most likely to fail in the USDM STi shortblock. This is essentially a bulletproof USDM STi shortblock and will compliment a GT30R, SZ55, FP Red , FP Green, or TD06-20G sized turbo nicely on 100 octane. WRX owners can benefit from this shortblock also since their heads will bolt right onto it; however, combining their heads with something like the Helix cams and valvetrain and this shortblock would yield something with peak power output similar to the USDM STi. In comparison to other companies' Stage 1 shortblocks, our adds coated race bearings and balancing to within 1 gram (JDM STi motors are balanced to within 7 grams).

We are pleased to announce the release of our second generation Stage 2 2.5L Short Block. The GS650 exemplifies all of our experience building and tuning high horsepower race and street engines. The GS650 has been installed on daily-driven cars that make over 600HP on the street, safely and reliably. These are the same cars that drive to the track, run sub-11 second times and are driven home. This block is capable of maxing out the GT35R turbo (ask MARKGSTI
).
The GS650 starts life as a regular STI shortblock. First we replace the weak hyper-cast stock pistons with custom spec forged units (coated). Not only are the pistons significantly stronger than the stock units the pistons are substantially lighter too. We then address the connecting rods. The rods are replaced with Helix forged H-beam rods held together with ARP L-19 bolts. The super-strong forged rods coupled with the best rod bolts available on the market allow for high RPM operation. The crankshaft is then modified with our proprietary techniques creating a crankshaft similar to the $2000 STI race crankshaft used on the WRC cars. The bearings are swapped out in favor of Gruppe-S coated race bearings. This addresses all the common main failure points of the stock STI 2.5 engine – spun bearings, cracked pistons, and damaged rods.
The entire assembly is then balanced. Piston walls are bored and honed, all tolerances are triple checked, and the assembly is professionally assembled. The end result is a big power engine that is capable of 8500 RPM operation* and holding 650 crank HP. That’s right, 165 HP PER A CYLINDER. The GS650 is purposely built to tight tolerances for street operation. You will not experience excessive oil consumption and you will not have a rocking issue with our pistons.

are the regular helix downpipes still in production? by regular i mean the ones with no external wastegate port. can i use this on my 04wrx without any ill effects? dono if that's a dumb question or not...but thanks for any info

That is an EWG set-up. It works the same as a normal wastegate but relieves pressure through the uppipe rather than through a port in the turbine housing. The advantages of such a setup are that you can run much higher boost (good for large turbos) and you have better control of the boost (often leads to more power at the same boost pressure). The excessive pressure (air) is dumped back into the downpipe in this instance but it can also be dumped to atmosphere (very loud).

The catted DP would be $329 OTD (including tax) picked up.
The catless DP would be $219 OTD (including tax) picked up.
That's why it's angled slightly. We have test fitted both of these pieces and fitment is excellent. Preston ran them both on this WRX.
