wrx 04 or Audi 1.8t quattro?
Personally, I'd take the WRX over the A4 quattro. Depends what you want though, the A4 is gonna be more luxory with much nicer interior and build quality. People talk bad about Audi reliability, but I don't know anyone personally that's had problems. I've always wanted a WRX and love the way they look, conveys a sportier image than the Audi. But the only downside is it's japaneese not german, and you can tell when it comes to the overall quality of the interior and design.

"VIBEELEVEN It all depends, do you want to be faster or have more bling?"
pretty much sums it up.
I had a 2000 A4 1.8TQ 5 speed with APR chip and exhaust. I really liked it, but I started having electrical problems (windows, door chime kept chiming, etc.) that were very annoying and hard for the dealer to diagnose/fix. I got sick of taking it to the dealership. I also had to get alignments all the time.
I sold it and bought a 2004 WRX wagon and am much happier with the WRX.
The A4 would pull more chicks and is a more comfortable ride. It also feels more planted on the road (because it's heavy), and it doesn't feel as sporty as the WRX. The A4 had torque in the low rpms, but then fell on its face at around 5k rpms. It felt fast though.
WRX - significantly faster and easier/cheaper to mod. Handles better (after you ditch the re92's). Less expensive to maintain. More reliable.
A4 - pretty quick with a chip. comfortable. Seemed to scrape over everything even at stock ride height.

My wife has a jetta gli with the 1.8t, I don't know how much different it is in the audi, but it is quick between about 1500-4000 rpms but after that it doesn't make any more power.
Lemme chime in here...
I currently have an '04 A4 1.8T and am trading it in for a '06 Impreza sportwagon.
The audi certainly has more luxury, better fit/finish, warranty. It's also more expensive, and isn't as quick. My A4 is automatic, which hurts it a little, but even in sport mode, it's a little sluggish in the bottom end. The turbo lag is bad, and the transmission shifts too slow, especially on the 1-2 shift. The interior is beautiful, the sport suspension package is awesome, and I'll miss some of the luxury features. BUT, I'm very much looking forward to my Subie , which will feel much more sporty, and will have the hatchback I miss from my GTI.
I guess basically it comes down to whether you want more sportiness or more luxury, and the size of your wallet, which I assume isn't That big or you'd be shopping for new ones. Either way, they're both very good in their own right.

The Jetta is lighter, and front wheel drive. It is definitely quicker than an AWD A4. The 1.8T is great down low, but definitely runs out of steam up top.

thanks for all the feedback guys! Im still torn on what to get. My girl has the gls 1.8t jetta and has a little punch, but the luxury factor of an a4 is sweet
i guess its gonna come down to the price

IMHO, it all comes down to performance, reliability and resale value for any given budget. I believe that the WRX wins in every category. The A4 portrays a more upscale, classy image, but you already have a girlfriend.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the A4, but I prefer the WRX.

My girlfriend and I just bought a VW GTI 1.8T on Friday for her and it does have pretty good get up in the lower rpm's but does run out of steam on the top end. It all comes down between luxury or performance in my opinion.
Had a 99 A4Q. Great to drive, but a mechanical nightmare.
ABS comp went out - $1200
Turbo inlet blew off and sucked in debris - new turbo - $900
Windshield fluid sensor - $80
LCD dash screen went out - $350
Ohh, we only had the car for 1 year. The 90K service was gonna be well over $1200 so we sold it and bought a Toyota.
