I dunno. I'd have to hear clips, but to start off with, I prefer any exhaust that doesn't cost $1000. I also own a Camaro and I got a good quality exhaust for $300 for it. There's no reason why there aren't any companies out there that can provide a $300 good quality exhaust for an STi also.

I was at the gas station yesterday and there was a WRX sitting next to me. When he started the thing I was pretty startled. It was bone stock looking, but man, it was loud. I had briefly talked to the guy and he mentioned off mods but not brands. He said his car was making about 320 hp. This exhaust was loud even sitting at idle, but when he took off (not fast, mind you) it was really loud, but deep. It sounded really good, but just a bit loud for my taste.

was it a single or dual tip? he could have had a cut-out too. I have the borla hush, its pretty quite at idle (just deep and more rumble) but when you get up there in the revs it lets out a nice scream

I think the cobb dual tip is loud...I dont know about perrin.

It was a single tip. It was a little larger than stock but not in "Honda fart can territory."

It was very deep and very rumbly. It sounded great (on someone else's car....)

Stromung is my favorite. Doesn't drone on freeway, is pretty quiet when driving, but when you get on it, it screams.

I like an exhaust with a throaty sound. Does anyone know of any sites with sound clips of different exhausts?

i have the borla single tip it was originally 2.5" so i had it made into 3" it was pretty loud so i had a resonator put on. when you look at it it looks like an sti exhaust so it wont draw any attention.

have you tried looking into the sti genome? i have a buddy that loves the way it sounds, i think the tip is a little big.

preference...so you're asking for something totally subjective to each and everyone of us?

i personally do not like loud exhausts - it draws too much attention to the car. appearance wise, the JDM slanted look is aggressive, but i wouldn't have it on my car either. LOL.

stromung, borla, and prodrive...manufacturers that produce understated & quiet exhausts.

I haven't seen that one. I'm not into poop-tips either. The factory STi is "borderline poopy."

I put a Helix cat-back on my 06 WRX and it has a nice sound and is pretty quiet. If you are looking for a little more rumble, but not wanting to wake the neighborhood up in the morning I would recommend this one.

Not sure how it sounds with the Helix up and downpipes installed, but once I get them put it I will repost.
