View Full Version : Hitch-mounted bike rack recommendation?

Hi there,

I've got an '05 WRX Wagon, I've got the Subaru trailer hitch and I'm looking for a bike rack that slides in.

I know Subaru offers one, BUT...

Ideally, I'd like a rack that can hold 4 bikes and either swings or tilts down, but so far I haven't found any that are rated for Type I hitches (which is our Subaru Impreza hitch, right?)

If in fact the car's hatch can be raised whilst an ordinary hitch-mounted rack is attached, then the swing down/away feature can take a hike. But I'd still like a 4 bike option.

Anyone seen it? Heard of it? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

By the way - I do have the roof rack and I don't like it (nothing personal, just noisy and a pain in the ass - theoretically I'll still use it if there are five of us going biking somewhere - with my mythical hitch-mounted rack..)

Thanks!

David

David, sorry to jump in here...BUT :)

Do you have an aftermarket exhuast on your wagon?
I'm considering getting the trailer hitch for same reason you have it, but I thought I saw somewhere that the hitch receiver will not fit with larger canister style exhausts....

Thanks for any insight you can give to this :)

Hey man,

No, I'm sorry, but I've got a bone-stock car. Still got the plain-old can from the factory. However, when I was researching this I read that there is a different brand of under-bumper reciever hitch that will work with only very minor adjustments for a high-output exhaust. I think it's called an "egan" maybe? Search in the threads somebody around here uses the hitch you are looking for for his "tire-tail" device that allows him to bring his racing tires to the track.

Sorry I'm not better help. The factory hitch is pretty sleek, it's tucked under there real good.

Cheers,

David

I just installed a Da' Lan hitch onto my sti and i have a hks high-power exhaust....it is a really tight fit, but if you get two kartboy long hangers then that would be no clearance problems.
