stupid air bags in the seats....what d you guys think? i want to sell my seats and get some track buckets. But i'm worried about the safety issue of removing the seats with the air babs in them?

Can some people help me decide?

It's the same with the WRX seats, they have the air bags as well. Lots of people have replaced their seats with aftermarket ones w/o airbags, it's up to you whether having different seats is more important than having airbags. Should you change the seats and then have an accident where the seat airbags would have deployed and you suffer an injury (or your passenger does), your insurance company might not be too happy.

What seats would you be buying? Subaru sells only the OEM seats.

i'm talking about oem sti seats...each..i'm going to sell my seats for some track ones..but just incase i want them back and no one has them...how much would they be? i might try searching but maybe you can help me save some time....i appreciate you helping me with this.

So correct me if i'm wrong, i take out the seats....then i only have the steering wheel air bag...no side airbags at all?

The cost will be blinding if you buy them from a dealer. You'd be better off keeping your original seats and just buying the aftermarket ones outright. No point in selling them and then buying the same thing back for more money.
Without the seats there will be no side airbags since they are in the seats themselves. You still have the driver airbag in the steering wheel and the passenger airbag above the glovebox. Also with the seats removed the airbag light will be on all the time, although there is a resistor "fix" for that.

yeah hang onto your stock seats or find someone else selling a set, DO NOT buy them from the dealership!

if you run aftermarket seats you will need to buy a couple 3.3ohm resistors to make the airbag light shut off, just jumper them into the plug under the seat.;)

uhh, you plan to wear a 5 point harness all over town? it might sound cool but it will be a big PITA in no time, and besides, you would have a hard time talking yourself out of a speeding ticket when the cop comes to your windo and you look like you just pulled off the track at Thunderhill :o

You may not be as safe as you think with those 5-points on the street. The factory seat belts and airbags are designed to work together as a system, and the belts are intended to allow for normal movement as you drive and to position you for the airbag in a crash. Racing harnesses do not allow full movement which can actually be a hindrance in daily driving since you may not be able to reach certain controls and other things in the car. In the event of a crash the harness will keep you in position and upright which may not always be the best thing, especially in a rollover.
Use the harnesses on the track, and the OEM belts on the street.

Also, the side airbag might not seem very important when you're driving around on the freeway, but in town all it takes is for one guy to run a red and t-bone you to cause serious injury without a side airbag.

thanks a lot guys...i think i have a buyer for my seats. But, I still need to get 3.3 ohm resistors. I only need to do the driver's side right?
