Possibly for sale... PE1820 turbo
Possibly for sale... PE1820 turbo
I had this removed from the car last friday when I changed setups, but was mulling over whether i want to sell it or hang on to her. This is the New Gen PE1820 turbo. It has the separative wastegate which allows the user to change out the springs in the wastegate. It features true ball bearing cartridge construction (unlike the cartridges found on most other IHI turbos), and is good for around 320-330whp on pump 93 octane gas while running between 18 and 19 psi of boost and supporting mods.
The turbo has been on the car for 17K miles, and has ZERO shaft play of any kind. I had this on a catless "Stage 4" setup tuned to make 319whp at 19psi of boost. Never took the setup to the track since I don't track my car. This was just for overtaking power.
The turbo has spent its life (since its 1K break-in on dino oil) so far living the goodlife on a diet of Motul, Amsoil and Redline synthetic oil every 4000miles (depending on what i could get my hands on when it was time for service).
The new gen PE 1820 High Response Series turbo differs from the older units in that they work much better at lower PR's, making them really good performers on pump gas. Of course they deliver on race gas as well, but you won't be disappointed with pump gas performance as can be the case with similarly sized turbos that require more boost (and hence more octane) to make similar power. The older 1820's were like the Mitsu G-Turbos that are available all over... They needed to have the boost cranked in order to make power, but to have the boost cranked, they needed some pretty high octane gas or water injection.
The new gen 1820's are the opposite, and work better at much lower boost levels than the 18G and older gen 1820. This makes it an excellent choice for use on pump gas and realistic boost pressures for pump gas. For those who don't feel comfortable with running 20+psi of boost, but also want over 300whp on tap, this is a great turbo for you! If you are looking to make an honest 300+whp on pump gas without a bleeding edge tune, this is the ticket. With a TMIC and supporting mods, expect around 300whp. With a FMIC and supporting mods, the ante jumps to the 320whp range.
With regard to spool up, when I had the stock exhaust manifold and a TurboXS TMIC, full boost of 18psi was reached at 3700rpms. With 18 psi of boost, it made 286whp on 94 octane Sunoco pump gas.
With an APS DR500 fmic and a GruppeS exhaust manifold and a conservative tune, the turbo reached full boost of 19psi at 4300rpms.
The turbo comes onto boost very smoothly and quietly, and will hold well over 19 psi of boost to fuel cut in whatever gear you want to fuel cut (I never tried 5th, but we confirmed that in 4th gear it holds to redline on the load dyno)
I would like to get 750 shipped for this specimen
Here are some pics of the turbo. The pics were taken when the turbo came fresh off the car, so excuse the lack of cleanliness of the turbo...

Sorry about the quality and orientation of the pictures... My poor Canon PowerShot S30 is very picky as to which pics it will take when i press the shutter button......
If there are any questions, please feel free to shoot me a pm.
