call me a dummy...but what are the major gains of this...better airflow? just curious if this is worth my money and the pain to change it out...thanks in advance
If you have tgvs then this manifold does not have them. You will gain flow, better throttle response, quicker spool, and more power in the mid to top end especially if you have any head work.
It's a section under the stock intake manifold that has a ecu controlled flap like the flap in a throttle body that restricts flow to help start the car in cold weather. With the flap open it still hinders flow.

Your car will go into limp mode if you delete your TGV's, you have to get it properly tuned by a good source for these to work on your car FYI. I looked into it recently. Not much of a performance gain unless you run big injectors, larger turbo, etc. Its a neat JDM piece though
