I just went to my local body shop and they said that they would not paint my side skirts for me because they would chip.

Who has their stock side skirts painted? Have you had any problems with chipping?
Also, how much did it cost you to have them painted?

Thanks in advance!

you are not suppose to paint in the winter time unless if you have a warm garage. The paint will react to the weather and either crack, spiderweb, or even change its color. i did it in a warm basement. Also it cost me 45 bucks for all the paint i needed.

thanks IS300, i had a feeling that other people were doing it without problems. As far as winter weather goes; i live in riverside CA, (almost the desert) so it really only gets cold at night, when the car should be in the garage anyway, thanks again!

no problem. i hope your side skirts come out good. If you live in CA, then i dont see any reason why you should have a problem. Good luck and post some pics for us!

Have had my side skirts painted since March of 2001 with no problems what so ever.

I'll post a link for you to see, just use a quality body shop with an experienced painter who likes to shoot plactic after one of his helpers has spent a few hours prepping it correctly :)

well i went down to the local paint shop and picked up a few things. Since i dont have a spray gun, i got it made in an aerosol can. I got the adehisive spray for plastic (not primer), color that matches my car paint (silver), and clear coat. They all come out to like 30 something dollars. Way cheaper than buying a 275dollar side skirt painted from the dealership. good luck

you can order painted ones from any dealership for $260, be sure to install them yourself, its easy. the dealership wants $200 for install

Ive had my sideskirts painted for about 9 months, no chips, in fact I have more chips on my doors than I do on the sideskirts.

For those of you who are painting these yourself....

There's a piece of weather stripping (for lack of a better description) between the actual skirt piece and the actual sheet metal of the car. Presumably to prevent gap issues or rubbing. It looks like black rubber/plastic. Are you guys painting this thin piece as well? or removing it, painting, replacing it, and installing the skirt? Would love some close-up photos... I can't decide what to do... Help.

remove the rubber strip when you paint and then put it back on. Some people painted it and I think there were some cracking/peeling issues because they did.
