View Full Version : Ground Control Coilovers...Si o No?
AdoboUaReX 11-25-2002, 09:21 PM Anyone out there know if they are any good for the wrx? I wanted the fancy bling bling coilovers like the TEIN flexes but haven't got the cash right now (poor college student). I know springs are cheap and offer good performance but i want the adjustability of a coilover. And before any of you start saying how coilovers are useless i say BAH!!! I had ground controls on my old car and played with the adjustments frequently. Besides my car is a daily driver and having the ability to set ride height is a plus for me. :)
stealth-wrx 11-26-2002, 12:01 AM dont get the grount control coilovers, they are junk. spend the money on real ones. you will be very pleased with them.
Kostamojen 11-26-2002, 12:56 AM Ralph, I can give you a ride in my car sometime... I have GC's with AGX's.
Rally Ho 11-26-2002, 07:26 AM GC's are great as long as you put them on decent shocks and specify the right rates and lengths. I don't get how some people get 6", 400 lb/in GC's, drop the car 3", and slip them over stock shocks.
Edit: with that being said, I don't know of any good shocks you could slip the GC's onto with a WRX sedan. Using GC8 shocks will get you super negative rear camber and getting the Koni inserts for the stock strut housings would end up costing more money than a set of Teins.
I wonder if rear camber bolts would be enough to tune out the negative camber from GC8 shocks.

dorifto88 11-26-2002, 12:12 PM welll, i if you want adjustability, you could always go for some JIC's....
but i still want genuine STI shocks with some prodrive/ sti springs
AdoboUaReX 11-26-2002, 01:34 PM Hmmm...thanks for the input guys. I guess i'll just save up and wait for the teins.
Its gonna be a while tho. Stupid tuition bill came in ($1300). If i didn't have tuition then i'd have those teins by now among other things. Oh well, school first. :(
p1mpreza 11-27-2002, 04:32 AM man GC's arent that bad. I have gc's on gr2's and i like the setup. The car's a daily driver too and so far i have messed around with the ride height twice and it feels great!
Rally Ho 11-27-2002, 07:44 AM If you get the right rates & lengths for your needs, they're great. If you don't, they suck. :)
Moral of the story: get what you need! :p
WRX-U 11-27-2002, 09:32 AM I have had mine 4 over a year with no compliants.
Don't get them if you don't ever plan on replacing your stock struts though!

Scubaru 11-27-2002, 05:00 PM Get the GC's IF you want tweek the spring rates. You can use the springs provided, but you'd want to use them as a tuning tool. They (gc's)have hundered of spring rates to choose from. (the springs are made by Eibach). But there are hundreds of ways to screw everything up also. If your not willing to go through all that trouble, then get a coilover set up with predetermined springs installed and call it a day.:D

Rally Ho 11-27-2002, 09:56 PM Or you can specify GC springs to approximate rates & lengths of a prepackaged coilover setup and save a few hundred bucks. :p (This is providing you have shocks that can hang with the specs you chose)
wonthanhboi 03-18-2003, 01:27 PM Don't understand how koni inserts and GCs would cost more than teins? Anyone have the rates on the teins and a review? I'll look at the reviews myself, but it'd be nice if someone came up with the rates for the tein springs. Also, aren't there more than one kind of tein setup that is available for the wrx?
So...
PRICE and where to get them cheaper than the GC+koni combo, MODEL, spring RATES, REVIEWS, complaints?
