Lowball 05-12-2008, 09:45 PM Just wanted to post up the ride invite for Saturday in case anyone was interested...
Boggs Mountain (south of clear lake)
Leave Sac 7 or 8am
Drive time approx. 2.5hrs.
Fun single track & back to Sac.
PM me or post if you think you can make it.
(V)aniac 05-13-2008, 03:00 PM I may be able to get a crew to head out to Boggs...let me ping a few peeps.
Lowball 05-13-2008, 05:02 PM I may be able to get a crew to head out to Boggs...let me ping a few peeps.
Yeah let me know...
Looks like going thru Napa maybe the best route...
ryball 05-15-2008, 09:04 AM You guys are killing me. I haven't been able to ride at all in two weeks. :(
Can't ride Saturday due to party preparations + Little League.
Anyone want to hit GB Friday after work? :D
nachomc 05-15-2008, 09:53 AM I would but I'm not coming to Rancho Friday. Gonna work from DBTuned while Paul tells me how broken the RS is :\. I'll probably just do a road ride if this stupid wind goes away
(V)aniac 05-15-2008, 11:00 AM Hey Lowball...Boggs still on? Where, when and how long in the ride?
RandyB2 05-15-2008, 10:20 PM I'm sorry you can't ride Satuday Mike. Anybody else up for an Auburn/FH ride? Matt I know you have something in mind. It's going to be hot so we need an early start.

He's alive!
nachomc 05-16-2008, 08:36 AM Yeah I emailed him and told him to get his butt on here.
RandyB2 05-16-2008, 11:17 AM He's alive!
Yep, and I've even gotten a couple of rides in this week.
Tomorrow Matt and I are starting at the Confluence at 8:00. Others are welcome to join. Mike, finish with all your projects so you can ride.
RandyB2 05-16-2008, 12:30 PM Anybody riding tomorrow needs to bring Technu. When I rode the FH Loop Wednesday, it was growing into the trail in spots. It's not nearly as bad as Salmon Falls, but still it would be best to be prepared.

I am done. No more projects until next year.
But I have Little League on Saturdays through June 7.

I bet you look so cute in your little uniform.
I bet you look so cute in your little uniform.
I see you're still upset that I won't let you switch from catcher to pitcher. :)
nachomc 05-16-2008, 02:17 PM
ryball 05-16-2008, 03:02 PM zing... pow!
Lowball 05-16-2008, 05:48 PM Hey Lowball...Boggs still on? Where, when and how long in the ride?
Yes still going. Ride distance...not sure...no more than 18 I'm sure. There are two loops but I think you can mix it up. One guy I spoke with said he rode 20 but there are a lot of options and also bailouts along the way. Since I've never been we will just have to take it two wheel rotations at a time. I do have the possibility of a guide from MTBR but I need to let him know what time and how many people.
So far it's really only me and maybe this guy named Mark.
Plan on leaving from Natomas off Truxel In/Out Parking lot say 7am (not confirmed) but more like no later than 8. Then drive thru Napa. If we leave at 7ish then the Wine tasters may not be up quite yet...
Just send me a PM if you think you can make it.
Here's a thread showing the loops http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=409884
Neldar 05-16-2008, 06:47 PM Hi everyone, I ride with Lowball every once in awhile and he told me about this forum.
Unfortunately, I cannot make the Boggs trip b/c of an engagement party I have to go to (gotta keep the wifey happy!). I would like to get a ride in Auburn in the morning though.
Randy, are you still meeting at the confluence at 8? And do you guys primarily ride XC or AM/DH? (I need to know so I can decide which bike to bring if I join you guys). If you're doing Clementine > Connector > FHDL > Connector > Culvert, I definitely won't have time for all of that.
Also, I have a friend coming down from the Bay Area on Sunday. Golfing in the morning and heading out to Auburn in the afternoon (having to go to an engagement party yields an all-day Sunday kitchen pass). Planning on shuttling the back half of Clementine a couple times. It'll be hot, but hey, we're shuttling! If anyone is interested the meet time is around 2 PM (ahem!...Lowball?...DM?...)
Finally, is anyone going to the opening of Northstar on Memorial Day weekend?
Lowball 05-16-2008, 09:17 PM Hey Lowball...Boggs still on? Where, when and how long in the ride?
Confirmed for 7:am tomorrow @ In/Out Truxel/Natomas. 3 in the party + 1 once we get to Boggs.
Lowball 05-16-2008, 09:19 PM Finally, is anyone going to the opening of Northstar on Memorial Day weekend?
Tempting...
I'll check the calender ;)
RandyB2 05-17-2008, 06:27 AM Ok guys. It turns out that Matt can't ride today. (Sat.) So, I'm going to meet the FATRAC ride that is meeting in the upper FH parking lot at 9:00. A friend says that they are even going to have BBQ after the ride probably around 10:30 or 11:00.
Neldar, I don't know if you will see this in time, but if so I hope you can make it. The FHLT is only 11 miles, so that will take a lot less time than what Matt and I were planning.
Neldar 05-17-2008, 06:57 AM Randy, thanks for the heads-up. Reading about the event, it seems like it may be a lot of people riding the trail at the same time (which could be fun, but it could also get crowded). I'll pass this time, but I would like to meet up with you guys sometime.
I'm off to Clementine...
Not enough time to travel to Auburn today, but I did hit GB this morning. I did the 15.X mile loop in 1:20 with a piss break at the top of the first hill.
Now I feel much better about all the pizza I ate last night and all the vodka I am going to consume tonight. :D
Lowball 05-18-2008, 04:47 PM Matt...you will love it (you too Mike and Randy)!!!!
Matt I think you said you were going with an MTBR group which is good...cuz you could easily get lost out there w/o a guide. UncleMTB really did us well by having him show us the trails.
nachomc 05-18-2008, 05:00 PM Lance did you ride with UncleMTB yesterday?
nachomc 05-18-2008, 05:01 PM So, mtb rides this week..
Friday doing Rockville
Saturday going Annadel
Possibly doing Boggs Sunday. If I do I'm camping Saturday night with the rest of 'em.
It's MBTB 10 weekend with MTBR
nachomc 05-18-2008, 05:09 PM Good thing you didn't do D-Ville yesterday, Lance..

Lowball 05-18-2008, 06:36 PM Lance did you ride with UncleMTB yesterday?
Yes. I sucked toward the end of the ride when i stated cramping up :(
But he was an awesome guide and can really power up the hills!
RandyB2 05-22-2008, 09:49 AM I can't ride Saturday. I can do a Sunday ride if anybody wants to.
ryball 05-22-2008, 10:30 AM Can't ride Sunday, but we will likely do a quick GB run super early. Like 7:30 or so.
sublime1 05-22-2008, 10:48 AM Matt, what time are you meeting up at Rockville this Friday? I'm gonna try and sneak out of work early.
ryball 05-22-2008, 10:59 AM Matt, what time are you meeting up at Rockville this Friday? I'm gonna try and sneak out of work early.
Get out of here, runner.
sublime1 05-22-2008, 11:16 AM You're a meaniehead!:(
ryball 05-22-2008, 11:22 AM You're a meaniehead!:(
sorry :D
nachomc 05-22-2008, 11:31 AM Matt, what time are you meeting up at Rockville this Friday? I'm gonna try and sneak out of work early.
1230 @ Rockville (Fri)
945 @ Annadel (Sat)
1000 @ Boggs (Sun)
RandyB2 05-22-2008, 04:44 PM Bobbi (my wife) and I decided to go for a late morning ride today at Olmstead. Part way into the ride we started hearing lots of planes. They sounded like WWII type planes. Bobbi wondered if there was some sort of air show. We were in the woods then and couldn't tell anything. On the way back I looked up to see big firefighting planes. Then I noticed the smoke and shortly after we smelled the smoke. On the way back the closer we got to the parking lot the closer we got to the fire. When we got to the parking lot, the fire looked like it was just on the other side of the trees looking toward the Auburn Ravine. The fire crews were all over the place and hwy. 49 was closed just past the parking lot. The fire looked like it was possibly moving into Olmstead since the wind was blowing it that way.
Wow.
Good thing you got back when you did!
ryball 05-22-2008, 07:06 PM  Glad you guys are okay.
nachomc 05-22-2008, 07:07 PM hahahaahahahaahah ryball...
RandyB2 05-22-2008, 10:58 PM Update:
I saw ch. 10 news later and it shows the fire made it through the trees and into the field on the right side of the road across from the fire station. It looks like the whole field and up that hill on that side was burned. The video also showed that the fire got part way behind the parking lot. I'll report more after I take a trip there soon. I don't think it got far enough to hinder riding. I think only the area near the parking lot got burned. All this happened after we left. It did jump the trail somewhere near the start of the loop if you were riding counter clockwise.
As a side note, ch. 10 heard about the fire from an email my wife sent them. A news crew was sent there to cover the fire because of her email. I know this because we got a "thank you" from Stacy at ch. 10 telling us this.
Lowball 05-23-2008, 12:55 AM Good thing you didn't do D-Ville yesterday, Lance..
Yeah good thing...but Boggs was hot as HELL!!! And to think they were doing the Davis Double Century that day...and it was in the triple digits :jaw:
nachomc 05-24-2008, 09:52 AM Randy - Mike and I were thinking of riding Sunday. I'm not going to do Annadel/Boggs this weekend after all. I just don't want to camp in the rain :\
RandyB2 05-24-2008, 04:03 PM Randy - Mike and I were thinking of riding Sunday. I'm not going to do Annadel/Boggs this weekend after all. I just don't want to camp in the rain :\
Bert had asked me earlier in the week if I wanted to ride Sunday. I just talked to him and we decided to wait until the morning and see what the weather was going to do. We were thinking either Granite Bay or Forest Hill something. He is going to call me in the morning somewhere around 8:00 or 8:30. Our thought was that we didn't have to worry about it getting to hot. I guess we would ride some time around 10:00 if the weather isn't to crappy.
If that time works out ok for you guys, it would be great if we could all ride together. After all the rain we've had up here, the traction should be great.
nachomc 05-24-2008, 09:17 PM 10 AM is the time I had in mind as well. How muddy is it up there?
RandyB2 05-24-2008, 09:41 PM 10 AM is the time I had in mind as well. How muddy is it up there?
We got rain off and on all day. But the ground is so dry that I would imagine that most of it got absorbed. It should be great conditions.
I'll let you know what Bert says in the morning.
nachomc 05-24-2008, 10:07 PM cool I'll be up around 8.
ryball 05-25-2008, 04:13 PM Went to GB this morning...
note to self: don't go mtbing while still recovering from bronchial virus.
My legs were fine, but it felt like I had a belt around my chest.
nachomc 05-25-2008, 04:22 PM My legs were fine, but it felt like I had a belt around my chest.
My wife and I do that sometimes too.
I mean what?
What time did you ride out there? I met Mike, Randy and Bert at 10 and we kicked out 25 miles (24.24 to be exact). Pretty fun ride

Another fun ride. Thanks guys!
Good riding today. I chowed down some Tortellini + Garlic Bread + Chianti tonight to make up for it. :)
nachomc 05-26-2008, 02:09 PM Here's some pics from Rockville on Friday.

We were home by 10:30 so we probably rolled out of there right before you guys got there. :(
(V)aniac 05-27-2008, 02:31 PM So...i rode Ashland for the first time and I have to say that town is super kewl. Also, the trails I rode are among my top 3 maybe number 1. Single track, steep downhill, great climbs, stunts and step-ups and super technical. If anyone ever has a weekend to check it out I reccommend it over downieville hands down!!!
nachomc 05-30-2008, 04:16 PM Sweet, dude, that sounds fun. Where was it?
I'm back from camping - anyone want to ride tomorrow in the AM?
I have a game from 9-11. :(
RandyB2 05-30-2008, 06:20 PM I'm riding Cronan Ranch tomorrow (Sat.) with Bert and Fatrac at 8:30 if anybody wants to come. It's not my favorite place to ride, but it's ok once in a while. It's also the closest riding place to where I live.
nachomc 05-30-2008, 07:35 PM I can't do 830 :( gotta get the wife to roseville to get her car.
RandyB2 05-30-2008, 09:16 PM I can't do 830 :( gotta get the wife to roseville to get her car.
I'm sorry you can't make it. I probably won't be able to ride Sunday.
My wife and I rode Olmstead yesterday. It is open again from the fire. It burned a bit more than I expected, but the trails are fine.
nachomc 05-31-2008, 03:20 PM Hey, Randy, how was Cronan today? I ended up riding GB this morning after getting my wifes car from Roseville. I did a similar ride to what we did last week :). Was nice out there today, not too many people either.

Thanks for the phone call.
I saw your car sitting there when we left at 1PM to go bike shopping for Ryan's birthday.
RandyB2 05-31-2008, 05:28 PM It was nice Matt. We had eleven people show up. Decent pace and some pretty fun people.
I'm glad you got to ride Granite Bay again. Bert was telling me he rode it again last week with somebody and they went some places out beyond the pond as well as what we did last week.
nachomc 05-31-2008, 09:29 PM Thanks for the phone call.

Yeah. I started well before your bball game ended. I needed to get home so couldn't wait tii 11 to start :/
(V)aniac 05-31-2008, 09:34 PM Anyone ever ride during the week, in the evening?
We're going to try to start evening rides at GB soon!
nachomc 06-02-2008, 10:15 AM Yeah i want to start doing after work rides soon. I almost called Egan this morning about riding GB tonight, but my wife is going to kill me if I stay out late again. I spent too long riding on Saturday and apparently she was waiting for me to come home so we could prep and paint one of the bedrooms in our house. Of course she didn't tell me she was waiting for me to get home so we could paint, so imagine my surprise...
Anyway, I want to ride this weekend, and would like to ride in Auburn. GB is fun, but Auburn is more fun. What day can you dudes ride, and at what time would you like to ride? Please check your calendars and advise.
My weekend is hot.
Little League team party Saturday.
Final Little League game Saturday.
LL Board end of season party Saturday night.
Ryan's birthday party Sunday.
:(
Anyone want to ride Friday after work?
nachomc 06-02-2008, 10:29 AM Let me first find out what is going on with Joseys car (It's at DB right now). If I don't need to pick up the car on Friday, then definitely I'll ride after work. What time do you want to ride?

I thought you just got it back?
Friday - probably 4PM or so.
nachomc 06-02-2008, 11:45 AM Nah, it's having some other issues. Paul is checking it out today and we'll see what the deal is.
nachomc 06-03-2008, 09:18 AM Well, my car is definitely toast, not sure when I'll get it back. Lets tentatively plan to ride @ 4 on Friday and go from there. If I have to cancel, I will let you know.
Lowball 06-03-2008, 10:14 AM North* or Downieville on Sunday if anyone wants to go...
Details to follow once confirmed. So far it's just two of us.
nachomc 06-03-2008, 10:55 AM Oh, dudes, I was out road riding last night when the Monday night 5:30 road ride caught up to me. And by caught up to me, I mean passed me like I was standing still. That was the A group - those guys were going up Power Line Rd. at 35+ (I got the bike up to about 31 but still couldn't catch them). Then the B ride caught up to me, and I rode with them for a few miles, till I couldn't hang anymore. I was cool while we were all doing 22 - 24 mph up Garden Highway, but then...they just started taking off. I couldn't roll :(
Lowball 06-04-2008, 04:44 PM North* or Downieville on Sunday if anyone wants to go...

No worries Matt...just an open invite...I know you guys aren't big on the freeride/dh stuff anyway...just wanted to give the option to those who maybe interested :)
Good luck with the painting.
nachomc 06-05-2008, 01:04 PM Yea! I have to paint the second bedroom as it is now our guest room and the furniture needs to be moved in by Sunday :\. Good times.
And yeah, not sure I want to try my jumping skillz out at Northstar. One of these days maybe I'll come up, rent a big-boy bike and gear and ride with yous. I hear just having the geometry and squish of those 6" bikes really ups your confidence all on its own.
RandyB2 06-05-2008, 08:57 PM Sorry Lance, but the DH stuff is to risky for me now.

Dang...I wanna get your car back to you asap...parts are at tkmotorhead now.
Once I get caught up at the shop...10 cars at the shop right now...I got get back on my bike, which I haven't ridden since I crashed & broke my collar bone about 4 yrs ago.
So, I'll probably start out light on the local trails in Cool for now.

It's not a "big" bike, but you can steal the Prophet, it's set up for a slack head angle and max travel, and play with it in Auburn or something. I haven't been able to play with it yet, someone should, lol.

Prophet is 6" right? Might be fun. I will borrow it and maybe help set it up - so long as it's big enough for me. I know we're similar height, but have had discussion around seat tube length before regarding leg/torso size :D
sybir 06-06-2008, 09:34 AM It's 5.5 in the back, 6" in the front. The frame is an L, it was Doug's old bike, so it should fit you ok, if a touch small. You can stand it up a bit too by playing with the shock location. It's dialed as far as driveline adjustments, I just haven't played with air pressures, etc, so it's set up for about a 230lb rider. It's got an upgraded manitou rear shock on it that I need to set up for fatties, and flatties so you can revisit old bloody shins if you **** up :p
I've come to relaize that jsut like everything else in my life, I have as much if not more fun building and assembling and screwing with bikes than I do going on long rides with 'em, which I why I try to lend 'em out so much :D

nachomc 06-06-2008, 11:19 PM Nice ride today. Exploring that new section was pretty cool. The reason there are no markings in regards to it being legal or not for bikes is because it is usually under water. In fact, the sat pictures on google don't show all the stuff we rode today because of that.
From where we picked up Lomida Rd. to Twin Rocks is 3.3 miles (according to Google). I know it's just over 4 from your house to the start of the main climb at Twin Rocks Rd. and it's just under 6 to the parking lot where we went on to the new stuff.
So that's a guaranteed 13 miles there. I imagine it was another 5-6 miles of meandering through the hills back there before we got to Lomida, so probably 20 miles all in today. Not bad!
nachomc 06-06-2008, 11:19 PM So now that Mike no longer has little league, we can start riding again!! WOOHOO!!!
We were thinking a back to back loop on Olmstead - like we did last year. Start out from the parking lot and do the loop backwards, finish, then do it the normal direction. Sound good?

So when are you guys going to ride Olmstead? I'm riding in a little bit, but can't ride Sunday.
nachomc 06-07-2008, 12:13 PM Oh, I guess that would be important info. Saturday the 14th sound good?
nachomc 06-07-2008, 12:22 PM Oh, and, look what Mike and I found in GB while exploring yesterday...

Matt and I thought it best not to share our intimate moments. :)
RandyB2 06-07-2008, 10:30 PM There weren't any nudes (that I know of) on the Foresthill Loop and Connector today, but there were some really cute babes. I especially liked the one at the end in the parking lot that was doing stretching exercises as she was getting ready to ride. She was CUTE! :D
Lowball 06-07-2008, 11:23 PM N* tomorrow guys! Ended up being 4 of us who are going for a ride :)
I'll try and post up some photos if we take any ;)
Good riding and keep the rubber side down! :peace:

I still need to get a proper fit done on the bike, but I likey how it is. My massive balls get in the way if I'm leaned too far over :(

fair enough. my road bike got far more comfortable after ive been putting in some miles on the TT bike. talk about your balls being crushed. ugh.
nachomc 06-09-2008, 09:19 AM Mike: GB after work tomorrow?
nachomc 06-09-2008, 07:42 PM You haven't replied so you prob haven't seen this - but I just realized I can't ride tomorrow anyway. Since we're getting our new bed, we need to go get sheets after Josey gets off work, and she's actually going to be home tomorrow night so I should probably see her :)
I was playing golf all day with sir Lancelot. :)
nachomc 06-09-2008, 09:13 PM Well what about Thursday?
Dentist appt Thursday, followed by dinner at Bailie's.
Sorry.
nachomc 06-09-2008, 10:39 PM Epic fail.
Friday?
nachomc 06-10-2008, 08:02 AM Winner! I can't ride as early this Friday, but 4 is cool.

Gotta test out another new ride...
nachomc 06-12-2008, 02:04 PM doh. I don't have time to get home and get my bike :\
RandyB2 06-12-2008, 05:10 PM We still on for Olmstead Saturday morning? 9am? It's gonna be warm!
I'm suppose to ride Bullard's Bar with Bert on a FATRAC ride. I've never been there, but it is suppose to be a great place to ride. Here are the details. http://www.fatrac.org/index.php?q=civicrm/event/info&reset=1&id=59
sublime1 06-12-2008, 06:54 PM I'm thinking about riding with you guys on Saturday. It depends if my doc says it's ok to ride.

nachomc 06-13-2008, 07:54 AM 4 PM today Mike?
I have to pick up all of the shirts for TOC and All Stars, so I may or may not be able to ride. It all depends on how early the printer gets them done today.

Last time we did it in less than 2 hours riding time. Factor in breaks and such and it's probably like 3 hours total.

Never ridden it. And worse yet, I haven't REALLY gone for a REAL ride in like 2 months.
Bronchial virus > SI joint inflamation > :( me riding > :barf: on the trail.
Is everyone's description of that being a beginner>adv. beginner trail accurate?
nachomc 06-13-2008, 10:03 AM It's definitely more of a beginner trail in terms of technical and skill level. There's almost zero singletrack - most of it is double wide/fireroad type stuff. The climbing isn't too bad, but there are two or three that are pretty tough.
ryball 06-13-2008, 10:08 AM I'm gonna try to make it out.
sublime1 06-13-2008, 10:49 AM You should ride tomorrow. I'll find out tonight if i can ride tomorrow.

There's no way I got a pic of that thing. When I see a snake, I go through a simple, but always the same, process.
1. Butt puckers
2. I yell "OH #$@!@"
3. I get the hell out of there.
We were all to busy soiling ourselves...
I "think" they can only strike when they are coiled...luckily it was sleepin' across the trail. But I don't really know for sure...

I like the way you rode past the biting end of the thing instead of the non biting end. I guess you just wanted to see if you could out peddle a snake strike. We didn't have to call 911 so I guess it worked.

 For whatever reason, when I'm riding, I see rocks, holes in the ground, roots, small children, etc, but never see a snake until I'm damn near on top of it. By the time I saw the snake, I was going right at its head and just aborted course as fast as I could :\

nachomc 06-17-2008, 10:38 PM ATTN: SIRS
Tuesday, July 8, 2008, is the one year anniversary of my broken leg. I wish to ride the Hole In The Ground trail. Preferably in the morning, nine-ish most likely.
Can I get some buy-in from you guys? We'd have to burn a PTO day, but a Tuesday out there should be sweet. Minimal traffic in either direction, low traffic on the trail, etc. Please let me know ASAP so I can put in PTO at my work and we can figure out some fun stuff for post-ride awesome.
Thanks :D
Neldar 06-18-2008, 07:49 AM Perfect! I have that week off and will already be in Tahoe all week. Count me in. Anyone else?
nachomc 06-18-2008, 09:06 AM Cool. Have you ridden that trail before? :)
Neldar 06-18-2008, 09:35 AM Yup, I've ridden it twice. Once with a shuttle (parking one car at Soda Springs and taking another to the Boreal parking lot), and once riding the entire loop. It's actually one of my favorite trails. Let me know what type of bikes you guys ride so I can bring an appropriate bike (e.g. I'm not bringing my 6" bike if everyone is on Spec Epics).
On another note, couple of us are doing a Clementine quicky after work if anyone is interested...
nachomc 06-18-2008, 10:16 AM Sweet. Just wanted to make sure you knew what it involved
I ride an Epic. Randy rides an Epic, Egan rides a Klein (4" susp), lowball, if he comes, will probably be on his 6" bike cuz he's bad ass like that.
We start at the Summit parking lot and ride up to Boreal and do the whole loop. Hopefully this time I'll pedal out instead of getting driven out :(
ryball 06-18-2008, 11:03 AM I'd go, but I don't have much VAC accrued. Oh, that and I am fat and out of shape.
Neldar 06-18-2008, 11:50 AM Hey Lance, come do the HITG ride and bring your Nomad so I won't feel bad bringing my Enduro. Don't get me wrong, I love the Turner, but 6" = more fun. Have you guys gone swimming at the lake near the end of the ride (the trail splits right before the stair-step section and leads an awesome lake)?
nachomc 06-18-2008, 12:55 PM I've seen the lake but never been in it.

cleaning is for womenz.
nachomc 06-18-2008, 02:34 PM I would have agreed with you before my XTR cassette, chain and middle chain ring got wasted. Now my stuff be lookin icy. And, dude, fully degrease/brush and relube on the cassette and chain once a month = buttery smooth shifts and feel through the cranks when you're riding. SOOO nice.
Besides I'm in that mode - now that I have the CF road bike and ride with a bunch other road weenies, I have to have a spotless bike to fit in :o
ryball 06-18-2008, 02:37 PM
RandyB2 06-18-2008, 04:59 PM The 8th is either the day before my wife heads out of town for a trade show or the day of the trip. I'll have to check with her. She is out of town at yet another show right now so it might take a little bit before I have an answer.
If there is not a conflict there I'll go. I may dress in a 3 inch thick foam rubber suit so I remain undamaged.

TitanSTI 06-18-2008, 05:40 PM damnit! ill be in Yosemite that day.

This will be so much fun. If we have legs left after the ride, I can show you the secret trails in Truckee where this is at:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2EstCwlCi1k
nachomc 06-19-2008, 10:12 AM Oh wow. What is the trail like getting to that point? I'd be down to go out there and take pics. Wife will murder me (if I don't kill myself) if I go off that thing
Neldar 06-19-2008, 10:47 AM Oh wow. What is the trail like getting to that point?
We shuttle the trail b/c riding up the hill is a B (I've ridden up once and it almost killed me - about 1.5 hours of continuous singletrack climbing on a big bike). The downhill trail itself is super-fun singletrack with several route options. Not crazy technical and you can ride around most obstacles/stunts. I don't do most of the stunts myself, but Lance has bigger cohones than I do, so I thought he would like to see that trail.
There's also another short trail in Truckee named Lloyd's that is similar to Clementine in that it's short steep climb followed by all downhill. But unlike culvert/confluence, the downhill section is fast, smooth swooping singletrack without all the ruts, rocks, and crushed asphalt. There are also several low log rides/skinnies off to the side that are fun to practice on.
We'll probably be too tired to fit in another short ride, but it's always an option. Shoot, there's nothing wrong with hitting the 50-50 pub after HITG and just calling it a day...
Lowball 06-19-2008, 08:50 PM I don't do most of the stunts myself, but Lance has bigger cohones than I do, so I thought he would like to see that trail.

Not to bring up bad memories, but what section did you fall on, and how did you break your leg?
nachomc 06-21-2008, 07:03 AM Not to bring up bad memories, but what section did you fall on, and how did you break your leg?
I did it on the dirt road before the steps near the end. I went off some little side jump on the trail - something I wouldn't normally do, but was feeling good that day.
That's what I get ;). http://www.mattandjosey.com/cycling/Broken_Leg for the whole story.
nachomc 06-21-2008, 07:03 AM ryball - I was cleaning up my bike last night and found a broken spoke in me wheel. Of course it was 5:30 on Friday night, so no one could fix it. I'm not mtb today :\
nachomc 06-21-2008, 04:21 PM Rode with the Sac Wheelmen today. Fun ride. The people at the ride were all super friendly, not snobbish at all like most of the people who do the River Ride around Natomas on Monday nights. There was one guy, who is 64 and does a lot of mountain biking too. He wants to meet up with Randy and Bert and do some rides with them :D
Here's the ride: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6045695
47.55 miles @ ~ 16.5. 2600 or so ft of climbing. The page says I had a max spd of 52.8 mph, which I know is bull****, and the GPS unit itself says 37.7 was the max ;).
nachomc 06-21-2008, 07:43 PM oh btw - didn't look like anyone was mtb in Auburn tomorrow anyway, but I don't have my wheel back so I can't ;)
Neldar 06-22-2008, 09:24 AM That's what I get ;). http://www.mattandjosey.com/cycling/Broken_Leg for the whole story.
Brutal, that made me cringe. There's breaking a leg, and then there's what you did... Awesome that you're back to full strength. This anniversary ride is a bigger deal then I originally thought it was.
Lowball, do yourself a favor and pick up the Joplin seatpost for the Nomad. It's on sale at Mikes Bikes for a decent discount. Adds a whole new dimension to riding; it's hard to describe how fun riding becomes with this thing.
I'm in Tahoe this weekend but may be riding Auburn as I head back into the inferno of Sacramento later today. Let me know if anyone would be interested. BTW, my afternoon ride yesterday was 72 degrees with a very slight drizzle. Nope, not missing Sac!
RandyB2 06-22-2008, 10:17 AM There was one guy, who is 64 and does a lot of mountain biking too. He wants to meet up with Randy and Bert and do some rides with them :D
That sounds like a winner to me. You can give him my phone number, or if you have his let me know what it is. Bert and I ride during the week sometimes.

Is that one one by CrankBro's?
Hope tahoe was fun!
I rode "Side-O" on Saturday as a shuttle on the Nomad with my friend Larry. He lives up in the oakland hills and knows the area very well. Side-O is up behind berkeley, the university of.
Pretty fun trail for a 4 mile. One section called Sherwood Forest was awesome single track, downhill, in the trees and ferns...oh, and lots of steep brake grabbing fun.
Neldar 06-23-2008, 10:31 AM Is that one one by CrankBro's?
Yeah, they bought the license from Maverick. SO SICK (3 rides with it now)!
Wifey stayed up there this week, so I have tons of time to ride. Can anyone do a ride?
ryball 06-23-2008, 11:26 AM I can also vouch for the speedball/joplin. SO awesome... but like 3/4 pound more than my Thomson.
Mine is in pieces right now, though. I stalled in the middle of an oil change and have yet to put it back together.
RandyB2 06-23-2008, 04:16 PM Wifey stayed up there this week, so I have tons of time to ride. Can anyone do a ride?
Yes. When and where?
Neldar 06-23-2008, 04:36 PM I am bringing two bikes to the office and will have them here all week, so I can do spur of the moment rides anytime. Just let me know when you can go.
I was thinking maybe Auburn to get out of this smoke a little? Tomorrow after work would be great.
nachomc 06-23-2008, 05:41 PM What time are you thinking?
Neldar 06-23-2008, 06:21 PM I'm flexible, but meet up around 5:30? We can go to GB if you prefer that ride, but the elevation of Auburn might help with all this smoke.
If you're still without a wheel, I have an extra set of Chris King/Mavic 819's that aren't mounted. Just let me know if you need front or rear (or both).
nachomc 06-23-2008, 06:26 PM I talked to my wife - I can't make it. We've got a trip coming up and with her work schedule, tomorrow is the only night we can get the stuff we need before we leave :\.
Anybody interested in a ride on Sunday this week? I'll be unable to ride till then.
Anybody interested in a ride on Sunday this week? I'll be unable to ride till then.
Nope.
nachomc 06-23-2008, 07:09 PM Weird response. You're busy Sunday? :D
Weird response. You're busy Sunday? :D
Something like that. :)
RandyB2 06-24-2008, 06:24 AM You won't be able to get out of the smoke by coming to Auburn. A lot of yesterday it wasn't to smoky. Yesterday afternoon it got smoky and this morning at 6:20, it still is. It's not as bad as it was Sunday, but it's still here.
nachomc 06-24-2008, 07:57 AM I wonder how smoky it is in Tahoe right now :o
I don't know about Tahoe, but I can't see the sun in Folsom. It's a dim orange/red ball behind the murk. :(
RandyB2 06-24-2008, 08:30 AM They are saying there is a fire in Foresthill around Mosquito. I don't really want to ride when the smoke is this bad. :(
I would like to ride some time during the week this week. I hope the smoke clears out enough to ride.
Neldar 06-24-2008, 10:59 AM I'm disappointed b/c it is much to smoky to ride. I just heard about that Foresthill fire...Auburn is definitely out. Maybe GB on Thursday?
Just spoke to the wife and Tahoe is bluebird right now (Tahoe City anyway).
(V)aniac 06-25-2008, 12:57 PM I'm gonna state the obvious...Riding in this smoke is really bad for you. You can really screw up your lungs and are at risk of infection. If you wanna get out of it I hear that the Bay Area is nice and clean...
I really want to ride this afternoon, but I agree with Rich. It's just not worth it.
:(
nachomc 06-25-2008, 01:59 PM Yeah. I've been dying to ride but it's not worth actually risking dying and riding :p I will get in some riding this weekend for sure - I'm doing a century in two weeks or so (on the 15th) and need to make sure I'm up to it. I did 50 miles back to back over the weekend, so will probably do a couple 75 mile rides coming up. I've been having a lot of fun on the road bike lately.
sublime1 06-25-2008, 02:11 PM Which century are you riding?
nachomc 06-25-2008, 02:15 PM Which century are you riding?
One that Wayne from Mike's Bikes and I made up. It's him and I for sure, and possibly some of the Mike's staff and some other friends.
We're calling it The Tuesday Century. We're gonna ride, on a Tuesday, and it's gonna be fun. And we're gonna have beer at some point.
Right now the route is leaving from Mike's downtown, riding ARBT to Nimbus, and then going over to Gold River Shopping Center for some grub/drinks (this is about 25 miles in). Then we ride up to Penryn, have some grub at about the 50-mile mark, then head back down, only touring through some of the super nice homes in the hills of Granite Bay. Then back to Gold River for the final stop, and head back through old town and to Mike's via ARBT.
Wanna come? :)
sublime1 06-25-2008, 02:47 PM Orly? Is that July 15? Hmmm.
ryball 06-25-2008, 03:18 PM Orly? Is that July 15? Hmmm.
Are you going to run next to everyone and humiliate them, or just ride your SS 29'er?
RandyB2 06-25-2008, 08:15 PM I wanna ride but the *#*&^)(#* smoke is to bad!!!! I've had a head ache off and on for the last 3 days. I just hope it gets better soon so we can start riding again. What ever day it is that clears up, I'm riding. I don't care what day of the week it is.
nachomc 06-26-2008, 08:20 AM FYI: Tahoe is also smoky :( its not as bad up here, but it was even smoky at the summit. In truckee now and its hazy.
nachomc 06-27-2008, 06:57 PM We're home. Decided to come home a day early. The smoke up there was pretty bad Thursday morning, then cleared up by mid-day, only to get bad again that night. I decided we should come back today. It was pretty clear today when we left, but on the way down we went through some serious smoke. It's probably up there by now.
We got to Donner SP on Wednesday. Immediately we were swarmed by mosquitoes. By swarmed I mean, I stopped moving for about 30 seconds, and my leg was surrounded by hundreds. My back was covered with them, etc. Luckily, our anti-pest spray did work once we applied it, and it got better when we made the campfire. First night was OK once we settled in. Made myself a rib eye over the fire, grilled some corn, had a good dinner. Listened to music and talked with my wife till about 11. Unfortunately, a loud group of ****-bricks showed up around 930 and didn't STFU till about 12 or so.
I woke up early on Thursday. I had an energy drink, a cliff-bar and a bottle of water while I read some of my book. I looked around, felt how cool it was, noted how quiet it was and realized my wife would be sleeping for a while. Damn the smoke, the trails in Donner SP are pretty fun, so I hopped on the bike and went out. When my wife woke up, we decided that, because of the TON of mosquitoes, loud neighbors, lack of shade at our campground (which lacked trees taller than a few feet as you'll see below), that we would move on to our normal campsite: Martis Creek. Campsites are cheaper there, it's quieter there, the people are more friendly, the campsites are better. We love it there. We shall never stray again on the north side in Tahoe/Truckee area. Once we settled in at Martis, it was awesome. I pedaled a little around the campground, not too hard, but enough to have a little fun. We made up another campfire, cooked dinner (had a New York steak tonight - didn't want to get tired of rib eyes). We stayed up talking pretty late. At about 12 or so, we heard a coyote call off to our left, and a quick response from another coyote..directly in front of our campsite . We quickly locked up our food, and just as we finished, we heard the coyotes calling out to each other again south of the campsite. We've heard the coyotes there before, just never that close . It made for some suspense though.
Today we got up and went hiking in Donner SP. We parked outside the grounds, then walked in past our campsite from Wednesday and on to the trail where I had been riding Thursday morning. We hiked a couple of miles, then headed back. Like I said, it was pretty clear today, and that made it pretty darn hot up there.
Glad to be home. I cleaned up my grill here with some much needed maintenance, and am going to eat the ribeye I intended to cook over the campfire tonight :).

Neldar 06-28-2008, 10:11 AM Driving to Tahoe yesterday I was getting so depressed. The smoke was getting worse as the elevation got higher. Truckee was so much worse than Sacramento when I rolled in. I figured Tahoe City couldn't be much better since it is only 10-15 miles away. Then something magic happened. Just past Alpine Meadows things started to clear up. By the time I got into Tahoe City I could see blue skies. A little hazy, but a drastic difference compared to Truckee.
Sitting on my front deck there is the faintest of smoke. I'm going riding (FINALLY!), and I'll post pics of the trail.
RandyB2 06-28-2008, 05:11 PM Nice report and pics Matt. I'm glad you got some riding in.
TitanSTI 06-28-2008, 05:50 PM i went to Yosemite for a couple days and the valley was filled with smoke. it pretty much sucked.
nachomc 06-28-2008, 06:49 PM That sounds like a winner to me. You can give him my phone number, or if you have his let me know what it is. Bert and I ride during the week sometimes.
Randy - I just passed your email address along to Glenn. His name is Glenn Moore, so if you see an email come in, that's what it is. That dude is fast :)
