View Full Version : fold down rear seats
dorrington 03-06-2003, 01:34 PM whats the reason the WRX sedan doesnt have rear seats? Dealer told me its because the gas tank is mounted there or something, but I was reading an article on the lancer said it had braces there. If it is the gas tank, or something else not for rigidity, is there anyway to make them fold down somehow?
X1_SRT 03-06-2003, 05:03 PM umm, are you sure the WRX doesn't have folding seats?? every othe subaru does. gas tank does not interfere at all with the seats.

yellowsnow 03-06-2003, 06:13 PM I don't know why it doesn't have the folding seats (although the wagon does), but it does have a pass through in the rear armrest.
Personally I think it should have fold down rear seats, but my gfs integra sedan has that so it's no biggie :D

mocheese 03-07-2003, 08:09 AM the reason why the wrx doesn't have a rear folding seat is for extra support. like the added cross member in the roof (why we can't have a sun roof). the frame of that seat keeps the body of the car from twisting.... rally car remember.

Only thing is, the MY04 does have a sun-roof option........
mocheese 03-07-2003, 04:52 PM i guess subaru made some structural changes.... that's just my guess.

Okay actualy it is possible to have a folding rear seat. It has been done. I do not know alot about it but I am sure if you look on the "old site" you can find some more info on it.
GM991 03-11-2003, 05:45 AM I was told for sound proofing purposes.
It make the cabin noise louder when you have a fold down seat. And we all know that with the ****ty factory radio we don't need anymore noise in the cabin...:)

It's still funny.
As for not having the fold down's. It's an option I'd much rather have, but I've never really needed it.
gc8guy 03-13-2003, 08:57 AM Someone needs to find all of the parts to do the conversion from an older model Impreza that had rear fold down seats. My guess is you would need the brackets and the rear seats, which would have to get recovered to match the interior. I'm only interested in this for a GC8 myself...
dcoty 03-13-2003, 09:09 AM Im with gc8guy, older imprezas probably have less trunk space than the wrx and no fold down seats. Id buy one of these kits for sure...

KSs2001RS 03-13-2003, 08:34 PM anyone know what year of imprezas would have the fold down seats? i want to mod my 01 rs sports coupe to have fold down rear seats/pass through, but w/ little/no mods to make the seats fit and i want to use my stock cloth. anyone know? thnx.
bp_rex 03-16-2003, 07:53 AM Has anyone thought about doing a rear seat swap with a wagon?
wrxwagon2b 03-16-2003, 03:15 PM The body of the 02-03 WRX is more rigid than the gc8. Due to the redesign they did alot to make the car more rigid and there is actually a beam that keeps the rear end of the car a lil more rigid. THe wagon isnt as rigid but is more versatile than the sedan.
Due to the past 2 years in rally with the 02 wrx Subaru has found more ways to make the car more rigid but still have the "luxury" feature such as a Sun roof for 04. Also the 04 WRX is more rigid than the 02-03 WRX and the 04 will have a Sunroof option.
KSs2001RS 03-16-2003, 06:32 PM which models had the fold down seats? i was told to try an older legacy/sedan model. did the older imprezas have fold down seats? anyone know which year/model to look for that would have all the parts (hardware, padding, etc) needed to modify for an '01 RS sports coupe? thnx.
KSs2001RS 03-21-2003, 06:52 PM just posted on my modifying my rear seats - "how to get folding rear seats in your GC8"
