View Full Version : Mounting STi Splitters on WRX
GSR WRX 10-19-2005, 05:33 PM I picked up some used STi splitters for my WRX but when I lined them up on the car I don't see how it holds well. I see the places for bolts at the bottom of the bumper and on the side, but where it touches the rest of the bumper it looks as though a slot is supposed to be cut out of the bumper for the clips.
Just wondering what other WRX owners have done. Thanks!
truWRXtacy 10-19-2005, 06:09 PM cut the clips out then shave off the excess, there should be 4 clips. two on the side and two on the bottom clip it up and your good to go.
turbo_4_life 10-19-2005, 06:11 PM Correct!!! and good job on finding a pair..
KamiWRX 10-25-2005, 01:04 PM Cut the clips then get 3M Heavy-Duty double sided tape from any hardware store and you set.
GSR WRX 10-25-2005, 01:21 PM Thanks guys. I need to go to the dealer and get some clips for the bottom of the bumper :p

Yup. That's what I did too. Easy to do and holds up well. :)

ScubaruImpreza 10-25-2005, 02:23 PM Yeah I didn't use any tape either...It's not really necessary.
GSR WRX 10-25-2005, 07:47 PM So those who didn't use tape, you just used the clips on the bottom of the bumper and the clips in the fenderwell??

I've read instructions on Nasioc that showed people slotting the bumper with a sharp knife or something so the tabs fit right into the crease. To me, that seems more secure than double-sided tape.
Just my 2-cents...
breeze04wrx 10-31-2005, 07:07 PM I would not recommend slotting the bumper unless you want to ruin your car. The 3M tape works great and is totally necessary IMO. The STI splitters are great for saving the original $1000 bumper from scratches.

What kind of statement is that? If you slot it correctly, how is that going to "ruin" your car? If you don't have confidence to slot it correctly..then yeah, go the tape method. The factory doesn't use tape...they have slots, that's why the tabs are there. And the last time I checked at the dealer a bumper is about $250 and the splitters are about $125, so I'm not sure where this $1000 bumper you are talking about is? I know the difference isn't made up in Subaru's "quality" paint. I gave an alternate method of attaching the splitters other than tape, and I stand by it.
I cut holes in my fenders to install side fender signals....did this "ruin" my car too?!?

DomozitoLK 11-01-2005, 08:19 AM And I guess it was on Scoobymods...not Nasioc where the slotting instruction method was. So for those who are interested can find them here with photos:
