View Full Version : Annoying Seat Belt Reminder alarm

On the 2006 WRX the Suubsters decided on installing an alarm which beeps 3 times every 5 seconds to remind you to fasten your seatbelt. Does anyone out there know how to disable this feature. The owners manual says it can be disabled but it doesn't say how. I have also notice that it knows your in motion once you let off the e-brake. As a last resort I will be forced to disassemble the center console and keep the switch under the e-brake open, but If I do that then my daytime running lights won't turn on. Please help!!

P.S. I always wear my seatbelt : )

Turn your key to the accesory (right before the ignition) then buckle and unbuckle your seatbelt 20 times in 30 second (without sitting in the seat is easiest). May take more then one try. Sounds odd but i did it and it worked.

This actually DOES work.

I tried the buckle unbuckle thing. It caused my cruise control light to flash and my check engine light to come on. The car idled at about 2,500 RPMs. So i turned it off and restarted are took a few tries but it started. so i tried the buckle and unbuckle thing again and it turned the cruise and check engine light off. Everything seems fine again but nothing happened to the annoying beep. It was really bizarre. I have a 06 2.5i.

Just unbolt the front two bolts on the driver seat and loosen the back ones. Then remove the white clip that has two black wires going to it. That should eliminate the beep. I just did it on my 06 STI.

This is the most rediculous string I have read in quite some time - here is the deal, this work for other issues as well but works great for this one.

You have or need to find an old Nintendo Controler (Yes, this is the same solution I have posted before).

Jam the male Nintendo Controler connection into the female ecu-access plug under your steering wheel. This is the most difficult part of the process. If you need to, take a soft rubber mallet and pound it in - this will prevent you from hurting anything.

Once in, turn your cars ignition on. Wait for a few minutes for the car to warm up.

Take the controler and type in the following code.

1) Up
2) Up
3) Down
4) Down
5) Left
6) Right
7) Left
8) Right
9) "B"
10) "A"
11) "Select"
12) "Start"

This should clear up your issues.

If this doesn't work, you need to drop some flow on a EcuTek Reflash or Cobb Accessport and go into your ECU programing and turn of the seatbelt alarm function.

Yeah, you wish you had an 06 STI. It's too bad the flood didn't take you as well.

I watched Jarrad @ PDX Tuning do exactly this procedure on my '06 STI, and now I have no more annoying seat belt chime (past the few beeps you get when you first turn the key).

Whomever wrote the post about buckling and unbuckling the seatbelt 20 times in 30 seconds is correct. I am a tech at a Subaru dealership and have turned off the chime on my 06 STi and 05 LGT when i had it and that is the correct way recommended by Subaru on the tech site to shut off the seatbelt warning indicator chime. Also sitting in the seat or not, it doesn't make a difference

i just want to know why you had to turn it off in the first place. did you put in a harness or do you just ride around with no belt on. just curious.

People that do NOT own an 06 Subaru really need to learn and mind their own business.

just turning off the beeping doesn't mean we don't wear our seat belts everytime. that beep is definitly annoying, especially if you're waiting for someone, or doing someone with the car on but NOT driving it.

btw, i did the buckle/unbuckle trick and it worked, but mines beeps/flashes 3 times upon start up and thats it, no more beeping unless i shut off and restart.

If your alarm clock was beeping when you were just relaxing, trying to watch TV or read a book, you might want to turn it off too. Do you know how annoying it is to have it go off while the parking brake is on and you are in neutral while trying to load some CDs or finish a phone call? It's not a big deal if you just get in and buckle up and go, but if you like to warm your car up in the morning, and like to do other things in the car without being restricted with a belt, the fix is worthwhile. It is by no means a measure to avoid wearing a seatbelt.

All they had to do was disable the alarm when the parking brake is up, or if the car is in neutral. Not many people get far when those two criteria are satisfied. Very, very annoying sometimes.

I thought that was a joke, but thought I can get a good laugh at myself for trying to buckle 20 times in 30 sec. Well much to my suprise it work. Same 3 buzz's on start up then nada. my idle starts out at 1250 now before settling down - kinda strange as it did not do that before. 06 STI

What a weird way to enable that bypass.

Hi all,

Has anyone tried to turn the seat belt chime back on? Would doing the 20 clicks within 30 seconds trick re-activate the seat belt alarm? Just wondering in case I want to reset it to sell my '06.

Thanks!

For those of you who don't have an 06-07 hte seatbelt light will beep like crazy when you start the car if your not buckled. and it is annoying if your just waiting for it to warm up, It even beeps when your not in the seat! it's retarded... I as all of you believe in wearing my seatbelt, but I usually start the car, buckle then drive. the impreza wants you to buckle, start then drive, which sucks if your tring to do something before you drive away...

the buckle/unbuckle thing worked!!!! (yay!)
