yzercyber 09-14-2005, 08:33 AM I commute 51 miles per day, five days a week. At 22 MPG (my calculated average commuting mpg) that's 11.5 gallons of Chevron premium at 3.29 a gallon. That's $37.80 for fuel every week. I paid cash for the car when I bought it in '03. That was just under $23K (purchase price plus tax and license), so $23K minus the $1.5K the car will be worth when I sell it in year 2013 is $21.5K... divided by 520 weeks that I will own it... that's $41.30 per week just to use the car. Another roughly $2K per year for maintenance, insurance and registration fees... that's another $38.40 per week.
Looks like the cost to commute with my WRX is $117.50 per week or $23.50 per day or 46 cents per mile.

the federal gov't just raised the allowable mileage billing rate to 48 cents per mile thanks to drastic gas price increases. Sooo....gdogg's actual cost to commute is closer to $15.36, almost three times what he is paying just for gas ($6.10). :(
yungjin 09-15-2005, 07:45 PM I used about $200-$250 per month on gas before the prices went crazy.
I would say about $250-$300 per month now.
5 days out of the week I travel a little over 40 miles round trip.

thanks for the very detailed info. however if i wanted all the details i would have accounted for all the sodas i drink while driving and costs of washing my clothes that i wear while driving--- that and the fact i like the $6.10 better than the $15.36 you posted you geek ;) :p

Not an English teacher I hope? :o
I do 35 miles each way, 70 round trip, but I do 12 hr shifts, average 42/43 hours a week. Get about 22.5mpg from my 02 wrx wagon on average, gas price is about $2.60 for 91oct right now.. so doing the maths..
Peh, its about 30-35 a week..
Or..
I`d guess a little over $8 a day to travel..
Oh! and they charge us to PARK where I work! in their own parking lot.. thats another $15 a month.
Turbo86 09-16-2005, 02:49 PM from my house to college it's about 15-20 miles.
i get about 25 miles to the gallon last time i checked and yesterday i paid $3.21 a gallon for 91. i have to fill up once a week to the day usually.
im trying to conserve gas by driving in higher gears and negative boost. :)

robsrex 09-17-2005, 03:18 PM actually yes I am an English teacher. It was a long week when I misspelled "great." Here in Ca. it isn't easy to afford new housing either. Guess that's why many teachers have "side jobs" in the Summer.
