How long do they last and is there another brand that last longer ans is just as good? Hyper 03-01-2003, 12:11 PM PIAA Extreme Whites, best out there WRXCSTI 03-01-2003, 08:44 PM They last for about a year or so. I used to have them but got tired of replacing them frequently so I switched to some cheap brand that I could care less if they burn out soon. I don't believe PIAA really has any HID look (i.e. bluish color) bulbs, only some white bulbs. Lavery 03-02-2003, 12:00 PM I just put some PIAA Super Plasma bulbs in mine. They have a nice bluish color, which i am very happy with. Hopefully i can get some pics to you if you are interested. they were worth the $66 i spent on optauto.com impreza2002 03-03-2003, 08:21 PM The Piaa Super Plasma is actually purplish color, not bluish! I have it on my car for about 4months, and I am very satisfy with the color. However, don't expect it will be brighter than the stock bulbs! 02eugeneRS 03-04-2003, 03:54 PM I had a couple set of the super white PIAA headlight replacement bulbs that i bought for about $70 at a local shop. I had to replace 2 pairs of them so i finally went back to the stock bulbs. I am not sure why they were burning out and maybe I just had some bad luck. It could be because on the new subaru's the day lights are always on and I drive my car about 50-100 miles a day average. I know the PIAA's are good quality and they did make it much brighter. It was a night and day difference. jjunior887 03-06-2003, 06:58 PM Disable the DRLs and mkae sure you turn the lights off before shutting off the car. Sometimes when you start the car with the lights on it causes a small power surge which isn't very good for the lights over time. Could be two of the reasons for premature failure.-James Introspector 03-14-2003, 10:50 AM I replaced both the headlights and the foglights on my WRX MY2002 with PIAA Xtreme White bulbs and I have been very happy with them. If you install them carefully and turn them off before starting or shutting off the car, they will last quite a while. Replacing the foglight bulbs made a dramatic difference in light output. The headlight replacement was not very much brighter than stock. HOWEVER, light output is followed closely in importance by light frequency. The light frequency of the PIAA Xtreme bulbs reacts much more favorably with reflective surfaces such as license plates and signs than the stock bulbs. When I first installed them, it would actually startle me when cars would come around the corner at night with thier front license plates blazing from my bulbs. Having people's license plates and reflectors blazing at night is definitely a safety boost. And from a navigational standpoint, it allows you to read signs more clearly at a greater distance. If you REALLY want to be able to see while driving fast at night, I would consider installing a set of driving lights. I put a set of PIAA driving lights in my lower grille and it's been one of the best performance/safety upgrades I've done. Each one of the lamps is more powerful than both my headlights combined. And the light is focused more tightly forward, so they will really let you reach out and touch someone. Look into it... InfamousDX 06-24-2003, 08:27 PM I just bought PIAA Ion Crystals for my fogs. Is the installation as simple as I'm assuming... unbolt the foglight, then replace bulbs? Anything special I should consider? Thanks... InfamousDX 06-25-2003, 12:02 PM Nevermind... I just went under the bumper and removed the lining, a lot easier except for the limited line of sight. RussB 06-26-2003, 04:59 PM PIAA Extreme Whites are really good. I've been running mine for about 6 months with no problems, and they're much brighter and whiter than stock. Now the fog lamp bulbs are another story... I haven't tried PIAA's in them yet, but I'm going to soon if I can find some. So far i've tried F-MAX (lasted 2 months) and APC (don't know why i got em, but they lasted 3 months). I'm just going to do without the fog lamps till I can get some PIAA's for those too. PimprezaWRX 06-27-2003, 10:53 PM i had the plasmas in my last subie, looked really really nice. looked kind of purple. only problem was they burned out after a little longer than a year. too expensive to have to replace every year... ArmyAndy 07-02-2003, 03:49 AM I have my plasma white for 2 years now, no problem at all subbywrx 07-05-2003, 01:13 AM I just replaced my dull hb5-9007 headlights with the SilverStar 9007st lights ... next I am going to do the fog lights with the SilverStar H3's as soon as I can find a place selling them. Here was the outcome: Before: http://www.njsportsbetting.com/wrx/hb5-9007.jpg After: http://www.njsportsbetting.com/wrx/9007sl.jpg Big difference... InfamousDX 07-05-2003, 11:45 AM Looks like the glare increased a lot too. j.reed 07-05-2003, 12:34 PM I have PIAA Exteme Whites in my Parking lights... http://www.jreednet.com/car/lights/2r.jpg subbywrx 07-05-2003, 11:32 PM Hey, what is the part number for the parking lights? InfamousDX 07-06-2003, 01:02 AM How hard is it to get to that parking light... Take off the headlight or just reach down there and get at it? j.reed 07-06-2003, 11:44 AM I had to take out the entire headlight to get to it InfamousDX 07-07-2003, 09:33 AM Bah... too much trouble for me. regg01 07-16-2003, 09:12 PM I have Xtreme White PIAAs in both my head and foglights. They're WAY brighter than stock and are the closest to HID that I've seen for regular halogen bulbs. I actually compared it with my friend's car (both of us have 2.5RS's) and his lights are a dull yellow compared to my bright whites! Is there a how-to on the install or a how-to on taking the headlights out? Um, read your owners manual? Just unplg it, take the sleve off, pull the bulb out, new one in, repeat. |
