I've read several times that dyno testing with the K&N caused a 3-4 HP loss on WRX. Has anyone seen Dyno results from K&N or Amsoil filter with a 2.5 N/A?

Those of you with K&N or Amsoil, do you feel a difference, better or worse?

Bump no one has an opinion?

When I put my K&N on, the only real difference I could say for sure was a little faster throttle response. It may give slightly more power, but my ass-dyno wasn't very well tuned at the time. I had only had my RS for about a month and my only other cars had been a '95 Ranger pickup and an '82 Buick Regal. Not exactly ready for USTCC.

It was slightly better. This was before I put the Ganzflow Intake on. It did feel a bit pepier. It was not like the comercials they have w/ gaining 20 HP :p

I have a ganzflow and amsoil filter. I'm mid-airbox mod right now, will finish it next weekend (don't ask :D). I wanted to finish the airbox b4 changing airfilters (you know, plastic shavings etc.....)

They are basically equivalent, but K&N is easier to get ahold of.

The cars making 20hp with a K&N usually make 250+ to begin with. It's more accurate to say 3-5%

It's still nice to know it adds anything at all. I got scared after I read Vishnu/Others report that dynos for the WRX using K&N actually dropped.

If Shiv says a drop-in permanent filter loses power, I'd be inclined to believe him. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to boosted engines and tuning.

That was exactly my point, Seraph. I haven't seen them dyno'd on N/A's

"No one uses Amsoil?"

I've ordered an Amsoil filter, hope to get it and pop it in this week.

The general consensus in NA-land is that Ganz + K&N (or perm filter of preference) is a good combination and gives gains beyond just the Ganz. In my voyages in the intar-web I've only seen one ever article claiming real numbers. There was a guy who tested a bunch of different stuff, changing one thing at a time. All that was said about the K&N was that the drop-in filter with stock intake plumbing added 1 measly HP.

1 hp. given, that's all things stock, but that's less than a 1% increase given stock power is ~165. with an intake adding say 5-7hp on average, assume the K&N does at least as well as on stock. say 1-2 hp increase on top of the actual intake gains. while that is still very little with respect to the car, it is in the area of 20% increase with respect to the intake gains and that's not bad. So it's not really worth anyone's while unless it's modding a mod, really.

I got one for 25 bucks shipped. I figured at the very least it would pay for itself over time. It added a little throttle response, but didn't even register on my butt dyno. I have a home depot intake that's constantly changing as I try out different combinations of tubing each week, so I can't really say if it does much.

That's all I gots.

I have had the Amsoil with the Ganzflow for almost two years and I really like it. I refuse to use a K&N filter due to how much crap gets past them in my past experiences. The Amsoil is a lot thicker and foam where the K&N is just a thin gauze construction.

Just put in the Amsoil filter and PDM intake. Between them it is a little bit zippier.
