I need to know how to how to disable my daytime running lights without causing electrical problems. I upgraded to HID's so I don't want to have them on during the day. Is there already a thread about this? Any info would help. Thanks!

With HIDs be sure to disconnect the module by the glovebox, NOT the one in the engine bay.

It's a little silver box with "Caution Hot" or something like that sign on it. Sitting below egt sensor plug with connector fasing downwards. Just disconnect that and isolate it. No more DTRL. I just did it on my 03WRX and no sideffects so far. :)

Right, but the module under the hood is only a dropping resistor, NOT the actual DRL control unit. It will interrupt the DRL function with the stock headlights but since the question was about disabling them for use with HIDs, you can't do it that way. The main module inside the car must be disconnected to fully eliminate the DRLs.

What does that module look like? And what is the difference if I am not running HIDs?

It's a large rectangular module with a 10-pin white connector. It can be seen and accessed from below if you lie down on the passenger side and look up into the kick panel, but it's easier to see with the glovebox removed.
The difference with HIDs is that if you only remove the under-hood resistor, it breaks the DRL ground path for the stock lights which is enough to turn them off. However because the module remains active there is still power applied to the headlight circuit for DRL operation. When HIDs are installed they will usually have a separate path to ground so the DRL function will "suddenly" come back. Disconnecting the main DRL unit removes the power from the circuit and kills the DRLs completely.

IMO DRLs are for grandmas. They are not very effective.
The most effective warning is loud straight through exahaust!!!!!!
