Hey guys,
Trying to decide on a new turbo for my 02' WRX. Should I go with either the VF22, VF23, or VF34. I know that the VF34 spools quicker then the other two but I heard it losses some top end. I wanna run around 17 psi as a daily drive and I want me car to be reliable. I heard the lag with the VF22 isn't bad. Let me know fellas and what kinda numbers can I expect with supporting mods and FMIC

i dunno about numbers but the turbo doesnt lose its breath on the top end like the stock turbo its fine

i boosted to 1.5 bar one time it holds its boost

Stock turbo can be boosted to 1.5 bar, but it is not efficient there at all. Just a bunch of hot air.

I would go with a 34. 22 is ok too, but not 23. 23 is too small.

a 34 is capable of slightly higher power output than a 23.

i have a 23 and am very pleased with it.

I drove my buddies wrx with a vf22 it really comes alive around 3500 and pulls hard
daily driven 18psi with a vf34 you will come on at 3000 but drop off sooner.

maybe I have a VF23 in my car then. I got it tuned yesterday and it made less peak power but it made more torque at lower rpms (that is what Shiv told me). I have the plots but no floppy drive to put it on my comp. If I get a hold of another PC I will post them.

I have a VF-34 that was ported and polished by Deadbolt Industries, and ceramic coated, it spooled quicker and made good power. From what I have seen and read VF-22 is just laggy and un-responsive. I have not heard much about the VF-23.

My vote is definatly for the VF-34. Port polish and ceramic coat and you will be good as gold !

the 22 can make an honest 400chp though. no other ihi has the compressor that can efficiently go >20psi. the #1 reason to buy a 22 though has got to be the price per hp.

do you guys have the site for the place that ports and polish the vf34?

http://www.deadboltspeed.com/ is the place I got mine done. I had the exhaust side ported and polished, intake ported and polished and both sides ceramic coated. Shiv from Vishnu said that my spool time was down and power was up a little bit from the normal VF-34 setup. Definatly get the ceramic coating due to the fact that subaru's have their turbo side right under the intercooler, so as much heat resistance you can get is great.

Cheers,
Austin
