WRX HYBRID:
WRX HYBRID valve is designed specifically to bolt straight onto the 2001 WRX with no adaptors or hose cutting. The Hybrid design allows the valve to be configured to return some of the vented air to the inlet, meaning no more air flow meter problems and a great sound. The kit also includes a blanking cap for the return outlet allowing the valve to vent to atmosphere only for maximum noise!

No the Stealth comes in the same variety of colors as the Hybrid (silver, blue, red, and black) but black is a special order!! The last two pics, red and blue, are of the Stealth BOV!! Let me know which one you want!!

one question for you....how loud is the BOV, compared to ssqv by hks

It is quieter then the HKS but it depends on which one you get...either the Hybrid or the Stealth.

Either one you can control how it sounds. With the Hybrid if you do 50/50 it is quieter then the 100%. And with the Stealth you can turn the top of it to make it loud or quiet.

Yeah just got mine, wish I would have found this thread before, but my Ebay bid was already placed. Got mine for 240+S+H. And only choice was silver. grrrr. I love the sound a bit of a whooosh rather than the high pitched of smaller BOV's. But I contaced GFB and they said they offer a experimental trumpet for 35$ that is described as and I quote

"As for the trumpet, we do have a prototype that only seems to work on WRX's (which is why it's still a prototype). At light load it makes a high pitch whistle noise, through the mid range it sounds very similar to the current trumpet, and at full throttle it makes a noise best described as a Star Wars phaser! If you are interested in trying it we can sell you one for $35 AUD, you can order it through Autospeed online (this way would be the easiest-just tell them you spoke to me)."

I will be ordering it in the next few weeks after my alarm and stereo go in next week. Then I 'll post on the results and opinion.

GFB has developed a new trumpet for the StealthFX that will change the sound I have worked with them and they are sending me a prototype in the mail as I type. I will write a full review and post up vids after I get it. Price is only gonna run about 20$ american. Just a heads up. I'll update in the coming weeks

I am sorry I have not been able to find any sound clips for the BOV's!! All I can tell you is that I have the Hybrid on my WRX and it reminds me of this scene from the first Fast and the Furious...near the end when the supra is coming to meet up with Vin Disel and is Charger at the stop point before they race to the train. It is hard to describe to someone though. But I am sure that you won't be disappointed with it!! Many other's have this same BOV and tell me that they love the way it sounds!! If for whatever reason you are skeptical about it then the Stealth would be good for you because you can control the sound level yourself by a flick of the wrist!!

Well besides the fact that auwrx is a vendor and might just tell you anything to sell you a BOV (remember they are in sales)there are other things to consider:

A BOV works by detecting a vacuum condition on the engine side of the throttle butterfly and opens a valve to dump excess pressure back into the air intake of the turbo. As manifold vacuum decreases the BOV begins to close and is fully closed once there is positive pressure in the inlet manifold. The BOV prevents the back up of pressurized air and reduces the restriction on the turbo allowing it to free spin as much as possible.
Externally venting BOV's can present a false picture of engine operation to the ECU. When an externally venting BOV opens to the atmosphere the airflow meter sees a large increase in airflow that is not entering the engine. This can lead to an excessively rich mixture, backfiring and generally poor performance. This is why Subaru vents the BOV back into the air inlet system. BOV's do not control boost or increase horsepower, it purely a device designed to protect the turbo from dangerous backspin as well as improving off/on throttle performance.
Still the main purpose unless you have major engine buildup a BOV just makes the noise that you want to hear and there are a lot better thing to do with the money than spend it ona BOV for performance matters. Even the STI version of the WRX runs the same BOV as does the standard US version of the WRX.

Above sales, I am interested in looking out for the customers interest!! I would not allow anyone to buy anything that I would not use myself or do not believe in. Both of the GFB BOV's vent partial back into the intake unlike some other BOV's. I use one of these on my own WRX and do not have backfires or run rich. Why would someone design a part that does not serve some kind of purpose??

Hey there!! The Stealth BOV is more like a 50/50 cuz it does plum back into the intake but you can control the sound/venting to the atmos of it by adjusting the top of it to louder or quieter!! :)

Got my blue stealth yesterday. it sounds awesome and i noticed a big difference in my throttle response as well. Yeah I still have a Silver Stealth available!! It is a direct bolt on you can take it on and off with no welding what so ever. You can check with your dealership but some of them do not care about the small mods...some actually help put them on for you. So you might not have to take it on and off. It is fine to send a money order too!! Email or PM me and I will give you the info for you on where to send and how to make it out!!

Got the bov this morning....man, this unit is a beauty. :p
thought the hks ssqv was cool, but man, this is much prettier.

btw, I saw a few posts that the GFB bov sticks open sometimes
when new and people have sprayed some lube in it. which side? i'll just put a drop of wd40 before i install it.

intercooler side? reciculating valve side? top cap nipple side?
it looks like the piston has ample grease on it... was it a bug
that was already taken care of?

Good to hear!! :) I am glad that you are so stoked with your new BOV!! It is a very pretty unit!!

They do come well greased but some people do put a little dab of wd40 on it and it doesn't matter which side really. I didn't put anything on mine. You might want to put it on first and then see if you need any...you might not.

thanks brian. actually, there's so much grease on the piston that i didnt add any wd40 on there for now. ill keep an eye on the boost level and if it has problems reaching full boost, ill spray a
dab in there. i pushed the piston in a few times with my thumb and it feels real good. very smooth. :p

i installed it 50/50 mode and its not obnoxious at all. at high rpm
i can hear it but for normal driving, my NUR catback covers it up.
:D overall spool up is a bit more responsiveb efore and absolutely no bogs or backfires like i had on the HKS SSQV! :p

the unit is a beauty too...very well made.

I am interested in your bov but dont know which one to get. I am told by many people that the stock bov is the best bov because fo the mass air flow sensor. Do you know what percent of the air the stock one gives to the atmosphere? Hey there!! I am not sure what the OEM BOV vents to the atmos but I know that the GFB Stealth BOV was specifically made for cars with MAFS that are sensitive to changes. The Stealth BOV allows you to dial in the right amount of venting for optimal noise so you can make it loud or quiet.

I am running 100% atmos on my WRX now and do not have any problems what so ever. The design of the GFB BOV was made so there would be no problems with backfiring or idle problems.

So if you would like a BOV that sounds way better then the HKS or TXS BOV's then I would go with the Stealth because you can adjust the sound/venting according to your taste!! :)

How do you adjust between 50/50 and 100 percnet atmosphere on te hybrid?

With the Hybrid you get a cap that goes on the back side of the BOV that caps off the return line and that vents 100% to the atmos. Then if you want to run 50/50 you take the cap off and hook it up to your return line using a piece from the factory. It has the instructions that come with it that tells you step by step.

On the trumpet news, I talked direct to GFB and this is what they had to say about it....
"We have been playing around with an experimental trumpet for a little while now. The best way to describe the noise is kind of like a Star Wars phaser, it is a deeper note than an HKS. However, currently it is only working properly on the Stealth FX, when it is set to full atmosphere mode, at full throttle above 5000RPM and the car is running at least 13psi. The higher the
boost and the bigger the turbo, the better the noise is. Below the above specified conditions, it makes a normal whoosh. The reason we haven't been selling these is because of the exacting conditions required to make it sound good, but the design is getting a little better."

I will let everyone know that has a Stealth when I get some that is interested.

Hey Brian,

I bought a hybrid, but I still want a trumpet too! What do I do?


By the way, got the hybid today, and installed in about 10 minutes. However, I did have to go to the local auto parts store to get some more hose (vacuum line) because I have a boost guage tapped right there, and the hose would not reach any longer. Anyways, I love it. I'd rather be safe with a hybrid than run rich with a full atmosphere.

I am glad that you got it installed and working proberly!! :) I wish that they would make the trumpet for all of the BOV's but right now it is still being designed and worked on and that is why they haven't been selling them because of the design flaw. And knowing how great of a company that GFB is, they will not release something until it is right!! So I guess we will wait and see what they come up with and they might get it worked out to where it will work for the Hybrid as well.

Hey I just wanted to add some info on the GFB Performance Pulley Kits incase there is someone that is not firmilar with them.....

Average Power Gains are up to 9HP for forced air systems. Coupled with the excellent anodised finish and fit, you'll have a pulley kit that will give you the extra edge you need!

How do they do this? GFB's pulleys are manufactured on the latest Multi-Axis CNC machines from the highest grade 6061-T6 aluminium billet, making them immensely lighter than their factory steel counterparts. This lower weight yields a large reduction in the rotating inertia of the belt train, allowing the engine to accelerate faster. The effect is similar to fitting a lightened flywheel and is particularly noticeable in the lower RPM range before the turbo spools up. This is because the power required to accelerate a heavy pulley accounts for a much greater proportion of the available power at low RPM. Additional power increases also come from a slight change in the ratios to reduce the driven load of the power-robbing peripheral components (particularly at high RPM), without affecting their performance.

hi im interested in the stealth bov but i have some questions since i'm a total wrx noob. how will i know what's the optimum setting for the stealth? what if i don't have an "air flowed meter" to see what's going on and don't feel any problems? How do I know if I should run 50/50, 60/40, etc??? Will i have to "feel" the problems/ issues of backfiring, idle issues, etc. and then tune it accordingly? thanks!

Hey there!! Welcome!! With the GFB Stealth BOV you don't have to worry as much about tuning for backfiring and idle issues cuz they were designed not to have these issues...really just the optimal sound that you want out of it!! I mean one time you can run super quiet and the next you could scare the person you pass!! :) You really don't need to worry about tuning issues though!! And really you can feel the differences in the adjustments...and you just set it to your own preferences. In the instructions that are included, it says to start with it on the lowest setting and go for a drive and then you can tune it to your preference from there. I hope this helps!! :) Please let me know which color you are interested in cuz I have a Blue and a Silver Stealth that is ready to go when you are!!

so does the bov come in 100% atmosphere or 50/50? or can you adjust these settings?

im confused about this. if you adjust the sound, are you adjusting the amount of airflow back into the intake or atmosphere too? ie. adjusting the 50/50 recirculation or 100% atmospheric ?

You are correct it does vent back into the return line and part to the atmos. The more that you ven to to atmos the louder it gets!! I have the Hybrid on mine and I have run both 50/50 and 100% and the biggest difference is in the sound and then you feel a difference in the throttle response also. Again it is personal preference. I hope this clears it up a bit. Sorry for the confussion!! Let me know if you have any further questions!!

By utilising a unique air diverting system of the Stealth BOV you control exactly how much air you dump to the atmosphere for noise, or the inlet for silence. By sending the vented air back to the inlet (rather than muffling it), there is no restriction and the valve still operates at maximum efficiency.

hey guys
anyone got the directions to install the GFB BOV 50/50 one?
i was running at 50/50 before my car got ran into by some soccer mom, so it was at the shop and i took the bov before bringing it there (dealer shop) so they couldn't complain about warrenty. anyway, how do i install it at 100% atmostphere, i wanna see what its like, i think i know but i want to be sure

Hey there!! To install 100% all you have to do is cap off the backside of the BOV (included) and then put the plug (included) in the intake return line. Then you are done!! :)

i just received the stealth fx bov today, thanks! i'm kinda confused on the adjustments. how do i adjust the sound again? i know it's the third ring but that thing doesn't budge or move! if it does, the second ring goes with it. also, right now the bov vents pretty loud at even normal driving shifting at 3k rpms. is the best way to adjust this to adjust the spring ring?

also, i noticed some fluttering at wot and shifting at 3k rpms. what's the best way to adjust this?

i just needed some help to make the proper adjustments. thanks!

Hey good to hear that you got it in!! :) To adjust the spring and the sound you turn the very top ring (silver/chrome). In the instructions it says to turn till it is at the lowest setting and then drive and adjust from there to better tune it. I hope this helps!!

so you adjust the silver top ring for sound too? i thought to adjust the loudness, you turn the 3rd ring??:confused:

I have one and as far as I know there are only two rings. One ring has the small boost hose attached to it and move independently of the other ring which control how open the valve is. Look down the trumpet and you will see it open and close as you move it. Adjust the inner ring to the closed setting and keep the outer ring so that the hose can still attach from the right. To move the rings independently, hold one, whilst moving the other! Then after all is connected, try opening the inner ring a bit to allow more atmospheric sound and make sure your car still runs ok and you have a noise you like. It really couldn't be simpler and is thoroughly explained in the instructions.

There are 3 movable parts... the whole top half as a whole (which would adjust sound / atmosphere-to-recirc), the vacuum hose attachment (2nd level which moves independently), and the top part which adjusts the spring and also moves independently).

thanks for the reply guys. but my sound loudness ring just doesn't seem to move at all! i tried using so much strength to turn that 3rd ring but it won't even budge. i'm trying to turn the rung under the ring with the nipple. am i supposed to use a tool to turn that ring? or do i have a defective unit?

You don't need to turn the 3rd ring to adjust the sound...just the very top ring (chrome silver). The one with the nipple on it for the small hose doesn't need to be turned for this. The unit is not defective cuz I inspect them all when I get them before they go out. It must just be something that you are overlooking...it really shouldn't be this hard to work. :) Please keep us posted!!

just an update, i found out that my loudness ring was turned all the way to the right already, which is why i couldn't turn it. it's still kinda tough to move around though but that only means its beefire and higher quality. i tuned the spring cap to my taste. i have it venting 100% to the atmosphere right now and no problems whatsoever. sounds awesome too. it vents at moderate throttle at 3k+ rpms. thanks auwrx for the nice unit.

Definitely silver. Still deciding between Hybrid and Stealth. Anyone got any input to help with my decision?

From my understanding, they basically function exactly the same, except the Hybrid can be set to either 50% and 100% and the Stealth can be set to anything between 00% and 100% by dialing it in. Seems the Stealth offers more versatility.

I know I should prob. get a paypal account, but I rarely, very rarely order stuff off the internet. Just wondering if there is any sort of warranty, and what happens if it arrives broke. And is there any way to accept just a Visa or Mastercard number in lieu of paypal.

I hate to nitpick, but I def. got screwed over on e-bay and I just want to assure myself. I have faith, and I really want a blue a stealth.

bundyboyz - PayPal is the only method to accept CC right now and it is totally safe and reliable!! I have used it for over 5yr. Second, this is not ebay but I understand what you are talking about. It does have a warranty on it so if it arrives broke(won't happen) but if it does then you just contact me and I will instruct on what to do. The only other form of payment method is to send a Money Order.
