Who has turbo'd an EJ22?
I've seen the kits and eventually plan on doing it myself, but I'd like to hear from people who have done it and what they think. Maybe even some timeslips and pics would be nice.

Well, the project is coming along nicely, but I'm starting to experience some issues from my valves, as in loss of compression. The biggest tip I could give you guys is to buy a premade turbo kit that comes with Link or some sort of real engine management. These kits are extensively tested and the support is real good for most of the kits I've heard. The computer struggles with the bigger injectors, and without them you're going to very power limited with our tiny 220cc injectors

i wish i could do an ej22t swap in our 95 legacy, but we are not allowed to use an engine earlier than the production date of the car because we go thru bi-annual emissions inspection and they check for that sort of thing

Bi-annual emissions must suck. If you want to go turbo, you could always get a LudeSpeed or other kit
And if you were worried about the stock Legacy engine giving way, you could always swap an EJ22T block
My plan (yeah, like anyone wants to hear my blabbering) is this:
October-ish, get an Exedy clutch since the stock one has 104k on it and is slipping under the extreme power of my stock engine. Exhaust would also be nice but that probably won't come till November since I'm not falling into some money until later this year
December: LudeSpeed stage 2, run low boost (less than 6psi) and have a great time running with (or beating) stock WRXs (aka the arch rival: aka my older brother )
Sometime during Spring 2004: WRX block swap, keep stock EJ22 heads but if money allows, I'd like to swap to EJ25 heads (doubt that will happen but I can always dream)
Summer-Fall 2004: Link or Electromotive Engine Management and some great tuning by one of the 2 Subie tuners near me (I'm blessed to live in Portland ). Looking to boost 9-10psi
Winter 04-05: WRX tranny conversion with STi RA gearset and then push power to 13+psi. WAHOO!
Sorry for the babbling, I've only got 30min until school starts and have to get most of my Subie-thoughts out of my head or I'll explode sometime around lunch

LOL
I know that feeling. ONly 1 flaw: Why not engine management first?? I know you want the power ASAP, but why risk ever running your turbo kit without it? Just put it on first, and get it tuned for your NA motor. YOu'll only have to have it recalibrated one other time: When you turbo it. By the time you're ready for the low compression motor, you'll have all the other kinks worked out, and a little compression adjustment will be all that's necessary to run BIG BOOSTIES!!
JUst cut out all that other B.S. (piggybacks, RRFPR, boost controllers, car running like poo) That's what I would do if I had to do it all over. Cheaper and safer in the long run.

The main reason: LINK being $1500 and the TEC3 being $2000+... aka money. Ballin on a budget
I'd love to do everything perfectly right but I don't think it's going to work like that, know what I mean? Anyways, when I think about how fast my brothers car (03 stock WRX) is, I realize that a de-tuned Stage 2 with top-mount, T3/T4, etc. will be damn fast Low 14s at best but oh my god that'd be great considering how the car is right now (to say the least, slow as fawk).
Gotta go,
Ben S
