Turbo/Supercharged Impreza. Help.

Hi, I have a 1999 Subaru Impreza, I am looking to add as much power as I can. I am relatively new to the world of imports. I am debating on adding a supercharger or a turbo. Which would be the wiser choice, and which would I get more power out of? I want to do this relatively soon.
Any advice? thanks.

Smile Turbo or Supercharger??

I would recommend a turbo, because it has more potential that superchargers. Superchargers are driven by your crank, therefore, your car has to give up power in order to obtain more power. Without upgrading any internals on your stock block will only allow you to run pretty low boost though. The best thing to do is probably drop in a EJ20 or EJ25 in your car instead--a used one shouldn't be too expensive.

instead of doing a complete ej257 swap, you can just buy the complete blocks and bolt them up. When you do that, you'll want to make sure that you add a turbo immdiately seeing as how it will lower the compression ratio. Also, you have to think about the tranny and how strong it is...

It really depends on what your looking for out of your car. If you want a street driver than a turbo is usually better bc. of higher boost and utilizes low compression pistons which makes better gas mileage. If you want a track racer (not auto x) superchargers dont lag and have smoother power transactions. In some cases supercharges are easier to install (just change the intake manifold)but im not sure how easy it would be to do in your car.

Go with a turbo you dont have to swap engines, just put in ej22t internals and you will be set to handle a good amount of boost
