Hi guys,
am over in england and desperately in need of some help here with stuff that the british subaru delaers dont know much about.
am building a no holds barred 2.5 closed deck, with billet crank etc, the whole shabang for my 22B.
the only thing in my way is the gaskets.
I need to get hold of some three later OE subaru steel head gaskets.
These are off the shelf parts, or at least they were.
subaru replaced them with some four layer steel gaskets, which due to the wire ring on my block are not ideal.
When they did this, subaru issued a new part number which replaced the old part number, and all old stock was relabelled.
I have to find some three layer steel gaskets or face removign my wire ringing which I would rather use than not.
what I need to know is does anyone know where I can get hold of the old three layer ones and more importantly does anyone have the older part number rather than the newer four layer part number?
the trouble is if I ring a dealer and order the bits, all have the same newer part number so unless they manually check all their stock first, theyc ant tell me if they have the older ones or not!
Can someone mail me with the old part number or better yet if anyone has a source, please let me know, it is the only thing standing between me and 600bhp.
I dont think anyone wants the old style gaskets because they leaked, hence the new ones.... The new ones have been out for a long time, so it might be hard finding any old ones... Maybe try somewhere like www.subaruparts.com
whats the point of a billet crank. the factory is forged and counter balanced from the factory. also there are a ton of companies who will make you head gaskets. whos building your block and is it an ej25 or a bored ej22. do you know what your rod ratio is? just wondering.
Custom head gaskets definitely seem to be in order for an engine making that kind of power. The old ones are notoriously leaky, one of my friends replaced his 3 times, and that was only at around 380bhp.
